Favorite 223 rem bullet for 1-300 yards

I got around using longer COAL in my Remington 700 with an old trick

I cut a notch in the bottom of the feed ramp --this is easy to do except taking the rifle apart but still a simple mod

I modified MDT mags by taking it apart--the inner plastic halves touch in the from same as the rear but I cut the plastic out into a 'gap" in the front being careful to leave some touching at the bottom so it will still register and line up ( 5 minute job)

Shown is a 2.540 overall length and you can see how much more room there is in the mag--These load like normal

I have not checked to see if I can still get 10 rounds in the mag yet I did have 7 yesterday and it fed and worked great and short std rounds hit way above the gap in the action so zero issue

After rethinking my goals and considerations from you all I think I'm going to go with a 1-9 twist barrel and try some 55gr and 73gr Berger, as well as some 69smk and 73 eldm.
100 percent of my shooting will be an absolute max of 300 yards with probably 80 percent being from 1-200 yards.

I'm not competing and the price of the 80.5 and 80 grain bergers is a bit of a turn off when I can get 55-73 Berger cheaper and 69smk and 73 eldm WAY cheaper.

Still thinking it over though.

Thanks everyone!

That is the obvious solution.

14 and 12 twist......50 and 40 grBallistic tip, 50tnt, 55 blitz king. The 14 twist barrels are very accurate. The 12 is a Rem barrel, also nicely accurate. You don't need to be using a fast twist and heavier bullets for 300yds.

Hornady recommends 8 twist for the 73 eldm.

I would like to use my 223 bolt action with 80 to 90 grain bullets., feeding from extended magazine
Action is a Borden model SSR.
Does anyone know what set best suit my needs?
Does anyone know this company?

I'd get a 12" twist and use a 223 Rem chamber with it's .025 freebore, and use 52 Berger or Bibs.
The thought crossed my mind and continues, but I feel like if I do that I might as well just get a 222rem. Have you shot the 52 Berger or Bib at 300?

I built a new upper last year with that combo I posted, & I was torn between the 52 Berger or the 53 Vmax for coyotes. I chose the 53 for the little better BC.

I have my own 223 reamer with zero freebore for my prairie dog adventures, but use the 40 Ballistic Tips for those in 12 and 14 twists.

I've never shot any match bullets for groups in my 223's, but if was to, I would grab the 52 Bergers because I have a pile of them.

You can load 77 Sierra's or 69s to 2.25" and they will still shoot tiny groups. If you want to shoot even cheaper, do the same thing with the 75 Hornady match.

For those just use a Wylde chamber. Make sure to use a sizing die with an expander ball or change brass often as you will be below the donut.

75 gr. Hornady BT HB Best 300 yard SR Round in years Past.
My old mind remembers Wisconsin JR's set some records at Camp Perry ???

We shot them on the 300 yard runt Target ( 600). Single load in AR SR Prone and could clean the Target.
My old reloading Notes ? Remington Brass ,205M. R-15 or N140 24 -24.5 grs.
Kreiger 1-7.7 Wyle Reamer

My coyote hunting bullet for out to 300 is the Speer flat-base 52gr HP Varmint bullets, very accurate in a number of rifles. Bonus they can usually found for around
$.10/ea, I buy a K at a time. The Speer 50gr TNT is a great bullet also.

The Sierra GameKings and MatchKings are great, they seem to be the easy to tune and they like the jump a magazine length round provides, I shot 69s with a 24" barrel with Varget, I even tried cutting the front of a magazine open so I could fit longer rounds and it just made accuracy worse. They are also midrange in price and availability. Vmax are cheap and everywhere and good for 300 yards, i wont coyote hunt with them anymore but good plinking ammo.

The 65SGK I would hunt anything with but I like to load them hot enough that I dont plink paper with it for fun just for my bolt lugs sake. My el cheapo plinking ammo is 50gr Hornady SP and H335 and it shoots great, I dont normally use it past 150 yards though.

Or 23.5 Varget or
22.5 ar comp

Hard to beat.
