favorite 222 100/200 yard load??

just got an older Hart smithed sleeved 40X 222,,has a 25X Lyman Perma Center that looks like was all put together new,,hoping it will shoot pretty well as is and keep just to play around with

which bullet on average is best for a 14 twist 222 and what load does best in your rifle?

thanx

Never shot BR with one, but they uesd 52-53gn
Pretty sure the Sierra match king and H322
Will be a good one, Have Fun!

Mr Big
sounds like you may have one I sold some years ago in Atlanta, Bob and Wally Hart sleeved a 40x for me and did the rest of the work, barrel etc. -I mounted the Lyman on it and shot for a few years Br.

if I remember (40 years ago) imr4198 20.8gr and 53gr hp sierra match, I also shot my own 53 gr made with Sierra jackets in B&A dies. todays 4198s are different so I would try Mike Walkers favorite imr 4895 or possibly the 2015 or h322 - 7 1/2 primers in rem brass seated to jump .010

it was a one hole shooter most of the time and when I did my job won some matches.

Bob

One of mine loves 2015 and Bart's 52's. Sweet shooter. Sounds like a real fun one you have there..................

MY 40X LOVES H-322 52GR NOSLER COMP OR 52GR BERGERS AND 450M PRIMERS IS BUG HOLE MATERIAL!!!!!!!!!!!

it is a reddish wood stock with 3 inch wide forend and a rigged up white plastic buttplate,,the scope is mounted to the sleeve with weaver bases and weaver rings,,when you extract a case it pushes the case out to the side but stays on the bolt at about a 45* angle where you can pull it out,,,

I will post some pics next couple days as I like one payment on it and gonna ry and pick it up tomorrow,,

I got it from a guy that restores old cars in Smith Co Tn about 4 hours North of Atlanta,,

Lapua brass, Sierra 52 grain MK's at .010 off, 23.5 grains of IMR-4895 and Fed 205 Match primers. This combo shot bugholes all day in my 40X with factory barrel. A great cartridge!

I'll agree with 40X Guy, Frank's reload, my rifle was in the shop, he didn't want me out of the local match loop.. He loaned me his .222 at the spur of the moment, great grouping, until the wind grabbed me at 300 yards..

I have tried RL10x, RL7, H4198, VV133 and AA2200 with RL10x and AA 2200 being the most accurate. This was with a 40gr pill. Lapua brass and BR4 primers.

Any idea on the velocity with the 40gr. bullet and the AA2200 powder???

Phil.

I want to try the 40 vmax and some LT30, just for giggles.....

I think it might be fun....

i'm running 20.5gr of IMR4198 in lapua brass with a winchester small rifle primer (switching to wolf or 205m next time i load) with a 50gr zmax bullet. i've yet to nail my seating depth, but 1.800 to ogive wasn't terrible in my CZ527

For small vermin, 40 V-Max and 24.5 of 8208, 205M primer, is an accurate deadly load. Only generates about 3400+, but shoots a small one hole group and the effect on PD's inside 250 looks like they were shot with a .22-250 or a Swift.

Rem BDL HV 222 rem factory barrel
Lapua cases,NT
CCI BR 4
Win 748 24 ish grs,VT 133 works good also
Sierra MK 53 gr
Kissing lands

My best load is 24gr 8208, 40gr Sierra Blitzking, CCI BR4 primer. Great PD load and does a really good job on coyotes too.
