How bout infamous? Many many years ago Doris Miesner (?) INS Commissioner asked "Are Border Patrol Agents supposed to have guns"?

FYI, for many years U.S. Border Patrol Agents did not have any written authority to be armed, it was implied. Later they were authorized in writing in a new firearms policy that was implemented.

Also they had no arrest authority to arrest for drug violations, yet they did as a "citizens" arrest. This was later fixed by DEA giving agents arrest authority.

Just for info, I first encountered that quote in the book "Battle Cry" by Leon Uris, published in 1953. It was chanted by a Marine recruit as part of the punishment in basic training handed out by a Gunnery Sargent after the recruit referred to his rifle as his gun.
