Family’s Home Raided over Facebook Photo of Child’s Rifle

Since when do children 'belong' to the state? How did we let things get that far?

I would probably still be doing time if some government worker had tried to take my child.

@kelbro:

In 1974 the federal government passed legislation titled, Child Abuse Prevention and Treatment Act (CAPTA) where the federal government provided funding and mandated each state to create an agency to protect children. Like any bureacracy, these agencies have expanded in size and funding every year. They do this by filing more cases every year to justify their own demand of increased funding. Through the courts, under the auspices of protecting children, they increasingly intrude into the lives of families every day. These agencies file cases to expand their scope of authority and the courts are more than willing to allow these agencies to go unchecked.

Thanks Randy. I suppose some states are worse than others. I'm all for protecting kids but this is a prime example of 'give 'em an inch and they will take a mile'.
