F-TR stock

Hi

I'm looking for a stock similar to a PR&T lowboy, as I have a 308 rifle with this stock, which I've adapted very well to.
But I read somewhere that they are no longer being produced.
Can someone help me?
Thanks

Hi Ned

As I use the harris bipod, I need the stock to have a small angle in the toe.

Hi Ned

??? Not sure why you would think that. I use an LRA bipod, which is basically a giant-sized Harris or Atlas bipod. I use it in conjunction with an oversized rear beanbag, pre-loading the bipod. All my F-TR rifles wear McMillan A5 stocks, which have a significant angle to the toe. Such a setup works quite well. If you're dead set on using an eared rear bag, I can understand your statement, but frankly, an eared rear bag is not the best way to go with a Harris-type bipod. Having a relatively shallow angle to the toe is much more critical when using a ski-/sled-type bipod.

Hi Ned
I know it's not the most usual, but my rifles for Fclass(TR and Open) only differ in caliber.
I have always used a Harris bipod with a McMillan A3 stock, eared rear bag.
I've tried using SEB bipod and haven't adapted. My last rifle, assembled by Borden, uses a lowboy stock and I liked it.
I would like to assemble a 6 Dasher, but keep using the Harris and eared rear bag.
I like to keep everything simple and not have to carry a lot of stuff when I compete. I'm not too worried about ranking

I get where you're coming from. The peace of mind and comfort behind the rifle when it feels the way you're used to having it feel is really almost impossible to put a price on. I purchased a ski-type bipod several years ago and was using it with an eared rear bag and my McMillan A5-stocked rifles. Because of the angle of the toe, the rifle would end up pointing 20 ft above the target after each shot. I would then have to push it forward with my shoulder to get the POA back on target. It's not that I shot badly that way at all, quite the contrary. However, having to push the rifle back forward after every shot literally was making my head explode a few shots into a match or practice target. So I gave it up and went back to using the pre-loaded LRA bipod and have never looked back.

FWIW - you might consider putting a WTB add for a PRT Lowboy in the classifieds here and/or at other shooting sites. Someone might have a gently used one they are willing to part with.
