F/TR barrel

Fellas, help me with a barrel pick for next year's F/TR rifle. I can get a Brux heavy varmint or a krieger heavy palma 31" barrel right now. By my best calculations, the heavy varmint (7lbs) will put me at 18.5 lbs and the Palma will be 18lbs. Is there any benefit in one over the other? By the way I hope to get down to Palo Alto sometime this year and shoot with some of the guys on here. Anybody live around Jackson Ms and drive down there for the matches? I've got a MTU contour 23" barreled gun to use this year, but want to get a longer barrel for next year to shoot the heavies with.

Since 18.5 lbs is over weight I'd say the choice is pretty simple.

What is weight, thought it was 18.8?

Uh oh.

before you spend your money you should read the regulations. NRA HP Rules

And another thing, most everyone keeps a few oz in reserve. The last thing you want to do is drive 8 or 18 hours to a big match where they weigh rifles and get DQd for being over weight because the scales are different than yours.

+1 My .300 WSM needs all the weight I can get but I still kept 1/4 pound for "fudge factor."

Go heavy Palma to be safe on weight. As for match shooters from your area that shoot at Palo Alto every month, Alton and CJ Britt are from Brandon, great guys and very good shooters. Contact them, Alton owns Dixie Precision and he's a rifle builder.
