F open stock

Alex

Why don't more 600/1000 BR shooters use a stock similar to this design? It seems like the features you highlight are useful in that discipline too.

Its illegal in Benchrest to have more than 1/2" of vertical contact on the side of the stock. No doubt it would make the guns track much better. F-class has no such rule.

Be careful like the rear bag rule, you may not be playing in the "spirit of the rules";)o_O
Looks good !!!!

Last fall, I was at a match and saw Danny Biggs' F class rifle. He had reworked a stock that had the typical 1/2" flat sides with side blocks that extended up above the barrel. With the higher recoil inducing calibers like the .284 Win...284 shehane, I think Alex is headed down the right path.

Looks very similar to what Masterclass/Bernosky has done. It definitely cuts down on torque in the front bag! This fine sample belongs to my brother and he seems to like it.

I would expect every open stock to look like this. Only reason not to is "looks". Where is that stock available? I looked on the Masterclass site.

My photo skills are not up to the task, but here are some shots of Alex's High Side fore end stock. It really is a beauty. SteveSlabside fore end 1.JPG Salbside fore end 3.JPG Slabside overall1.JPG

It seems like the masterclass website is outdated or lacks of pics. Alex will accommodate for most requests and my brother wanted higher sides for torque control. I have seen a few other stocks with the high sides that he has made.

I had him cut me a stock with the forend of a PRT and the backend of a typical masterclass fclass stock with the nice palm swell.

I know PRT was making high sides as an option also.

As for torque control, I am not sure it matters on target. I was squadded with a Canadian fclass team member and his rifle hopped and torqued in his rest but X's kept on popping up.

At what point is it considered a rail gun?
When it IS a rail gun.

Twisting and torquing doesn't hurt your accuracy. It just makes you have to fuss with the rests more to get back on target. I shot very good aggs with a stock that lifted off the front bag every shot. What I notice with my 284 is the stock digs into the bag and starts to twist/rotate in the bags. This should help that.

I agree. After so many rounds the right side of my bag is lower from all the pounding. Eventually, my rest Level will not coincide with the level on my scope and that's when I know I need to redistribute the sand in the front bag. Having skis or catamaran forend help with this issue also.

If the sole purpose is to mitigate barrel torque, one must lower the barrel much more closely to the Neo-SEB lower bag. One way to do this is to employ a "fore end drop kit". This kit can lower the barrel to within a 1/4 inch of the lower bag, or lower(?)...in effect, fully removing the wooden barrel channel for about 6 inches and retaining the high side walls to mate with the 2 side bags of the SEB. Yet, this does not prevent all barrel torqueing for the Win .284 or the short magnums?!

If you want to fully erase torque, consider using a bi-pod, such as the SEB JoyPod; or go to a 6mmBR.

Yes, parallel. But 99% of the stocks I do get my adjustable rudder so they track PERFECT.

Yeah, but in my neck of the woods (Houston :) ) the ground that we get to lay on, is far too uneven to lend itself to fine tuning rear stock shims like in bench rest. That doesn't mean its value is lost on me. Keep up the good work.
