F-Class: Share the Love...

I'm in western NC. Looking for help to shoot first Fclass. Catawba Rifle and Pistol club is the closest to me in Hickory. I sent a pm to Norm hopefully he will reply

Is there anyone else shoots there?

Bridgeville Rifle and Pistol Club in Bridgeville, Delaware has just opened it's new 1000 yard range. The Club offers 600 and 1000 yard prone matches throughout the year, all of which are open to both sling and F-Class shooters. The next 3X600 yard prone matches are on May 12. Here is the link to the Club's Calendar Of Events:

http://www.bville-rifle-pistol.org/cgi-bin/calendar.pl

The Club has a large and growing number of F-Class shooters and there are always people at the matches who are happy to help new shooters. We also have practice days at 600 and 1000 yards and new shooters are welcome at those as well.

Bridgeville is close to the Maryland, Delaware and Virginia beach resorts for those with family that might enjoy that while you are shooting.

Anyone who wants more info can post a Reply or PM me.

I am the Match Director for F-Class at the Benchrest Rifle Club of St. Louis.

I am more than happy to help anyone who needs it. Of course I am in the St. Louis Area.

Always available to the folks here in South Louisiana and surrounding areas. We have Approved Mid-Range Prone matches and we also hold Field Precision Rifle matches. Our Field Precision Rifle matches, unlike our Mid-Range/Prone matches are not Approved, so we can coach new shooters on the line.

A short story-
I originally started out in Service Rifle Across the Course matches. One of the guys I was teamed up with must have taken a liking to me because he gave me a lot of advice and became a mentor. He taught me about position and the other parts and pieces that go into shooting that discipline

After a few matches, my eyesight was such that I had to transition into F-Class, because I could not focus on the service rifle sights. And the adventures into reloading began.

Now, I am the poster child for if it can go wrong, it will go wrong! My hand primer pin was just a tad too long. Rob, my mentor, told me that when seating his primers with the same hand primer, he pressed it in nice and hard. Well....mine being a tad longer.......yep.......had a primer go off. Of course the other 50+ primers in the tray ended up scattered all over the floor. Didn't press that hard anymore. Lesson learned.

Got to a match and most of my rounds were not firing. I was very discouraged, but once again Rob stepped in and loaned me one of his rifles to use. After the match we did some checking and found out the hand primer was setting the primers way too deep. Fixed that problem, too.

I guess my point is if someone had not taken the time and effort to help me and coach and encourage me I would probably not be shooting today, much less a Match Director. So, we should do the same with new shooters. Be a mentor and a friend. Make them feel comfortable and when they make a mistake, let them know we did the same thing once....or twice.

It will build their confidence and keep them coming back.

Same here, we have a great group of guys and everyone is encouraged.

I sure hope to run into some experienced helping hands sometime soon. ;)

I decided out of the blue to try this stuff (I've always loved shooting) and have been winging it on my own for a few months now and I'm super excited to be going to my 1st shoot up in MN in less than 2 weeks. ;D

I've really been hoping to find some guys local to me in Iowa with a passion for shooting/reloading/building to spend some time shooting with/learning from, it just doesn't seem there are too many of us out there, or at least close to me anyway. I'm sure I'll run into some of you great guys in time.

I clicked on this thread thinking someone was going to make a smart comment. Couldn't be further from the truth, thanks to all you fellas that offer your time and knowledge. Rstewart, I hope to make it down to PA and shoot with y'all one day.

I am planning to schedule a beginner class on the Sept 22nd at St.Louis benchrest. We already have enough to schedule a class and that is the first open Sunday that I can use the main firing line. This is a class on ground floor basics all the way to taking long range shots. If interested you can call the office and get on list.

FlyinBrian,,

I may have some contacts for your area. But that list is maintained on a different computer, so your going to have too wait a day and then I can work it. I will get back to you on this, I promise..

Being from southwest Virginia, I think the closest f class match is held at butner, nc.
I am really interested in traveling there for a match. 1st timer here, so I'm also in need of a little guidance.
Whitehorse WV wouldn't be an unreasonable drive for me either if anyone there might be interested in mentoring. Thanks
Brian

Nodak7mm,
Thanks for putting this and the spreadsheet together. I bet it is helping a lot of people get into the sport that otherwise might be on the fence.
I know i'm going to.
