F-Class: Share the Love...

We practice in Lodi every wednesday am at 8:30-9;00 until the snow gets to deep. Most people who have shot at Lodi know how fun it can be with the wind. All roads lead to Lodi so its easy to find. Might want to look it up on the net. I can get you in.

Rod, we have a L2 class scheduled for December 2nd. That is normally a firing line class but it may be cold outside. I will bring in as many guest instructors as available to keep everyone busy learning. I plan on making this class a good one !! We will be shooting plenty and will run back and forth from the line and classroom to stay thawed out. Fclass will be on the agenda because of the learning tool it is. Mike
Shootingstl.com call mareen.
I just spoke to Steve Siracusa who has been doing excellent work in FTR and will share his knowledge in load development!
John Ross just confirmed and will be teaching rest setup!
Brent Mitchell will run the line and teach line etiquette!
Sam Jakubczak will set up the range for us and give shooting demo!
Dan buecher will make his deer chilly (totally good) for lunch.

Our classes are still being refined, and with our success rate at 100 % (test and pass) in our last 2- L1 classes we see the need to advance the L2 further ahead to make the most of the opportunity. We have to keep things proportional with the equipment and that has been the biggest change is that the equipment is far better now. We also have seen a big increase in activity at the range this year!!!

I would be happy to offer any assistance in southern oregon ( medford area )
at the camp white range. We typically shoot once a week weather dependant.
we have a 3,5, and 600 yard line, and anyone is welcome. I dont care if you have an old '06 with a 3x9 tasco, We can put you on paper !

Rod, I run the prone matches at the Oklahoma City Gun Club. my contact info is on our website WWW.OKCGUNCLUB.ORG under high power div. you do not have to be a club member to compete but you have to be a member of the NRA.

I am going to shoot some F/TR tomorrow.. but with irons.

I think a few people would be interested in how that works out for a seasoned shooter! Please post your results, I'm interested. Mike. F-IRON ,Why not?

I am actually looking forward to this.. Troy (ttfreestyle) and another shooting buddy are supposed to come up today. If they do, I will give it a whirl. XTR could come out to if he sees this.

Any F-Class near Rapid City, SD?

Ebd,

Nothing in the Rapid area that I am aware of, take a look at this spreadsheet I put together for ranges to shoot at: Kinda funny how us fly-over states have less places to shoot.... Organized shooting that is...

What comes to mind for closest is Bismarck, Billings and Minneapolis area. ND schedules are getting finalized now.

Let me know if I can provide you with further info on those ranges/schedules..

Well, no one showed up but I went ahead and tried it anyway. It has been years since I have shot any F/TR. So here is the rig. One thing, it was a lil wobblely, due to the fact that this one forgot to back bore the hole for the adaptor (the stud actually) to fit properly, so I had to makeshift a spacer for it to tighten up. It was half donkeyed of a try, but I made due with it. So I would have to load it up like a Harris, over all it felt at least a lil solid. Recoil was consistant, though the front sight came down just a lil to the left, leaving only the left side of the target frame in the front iris, it was consistant with each shot. I can not say that I had too much variation in that.

Don't know if any of you all have ever shot at Oak Ridge, but the winds can get brutal here. And today was no different. There is a front moving in and the winds were changing up from around 10-15 mph, with gust enough to blow my shooting stool over serveral times. With out a pit pig to pull the target, nor any flags or mirage, I attempted want I surely thought would be totally futile.
SANY0402.jpg

So I took a sighter, not having a good zero on the rifle and it was up near the top of the target. (After each shot during sighters, I would shoot one and then drive down to the pits to check the target) So I got back to the 600 yard line and made an adjustment on the sights, both front and rear. Shot another sighter, this one was an 8 at 8:30. So then I came up 3/4 and right one minute. Each shot was executed when I could not feel any wind blowing on me or around me, next sighter was a 12 o'clock X! So I go back to the 600 yard line again.. this time, I shoot a string. It was difficult to say the least, without the flags and no mirage to go by. There were were times I was just laying there, waiting for the wind to not swirl or blow me and my equipment away. Most times it was coming in at 3:30 to 5 o'clock, then just gust up into your face, blowing crap all over the place it seemed. Considering the conditions and that it has been a long time. I feel that I didn't do to bad, though there was one mistake that I did realize I had made, but only after reflecting on it after seeing the target. When I was laying there waiting for the wind to be friendly with me.. (ha!), I made the mistake of eyeing the sights instead of looking at something else while waiting for the what appeared to be good conditions to shoot in. It was a battle. I am not sure if laying on the sights cause any of my elevation, but I do know that it could have been a part of it. Though I bet the wind was mostly the criminal.

Randy, that was a very brave attempt in the conditions you described. For a valid test it's going to be alot of work on your part. You may have to get with a ftr shooter to get the best performance from the bipod. I haven't seen anyone run them directly on the grass, usually a material of some sort. Give yourself time to get the bugs out of this and test this in match conditions with other ftr shooters on the line. Start a new thread with your results, I'm sure it will be educational. Mike

PS: You may have found a way to fill the gap between the two disciplines.
It's ideas like this that keep shooting so interesting, I'm glad it's coming from a sling shooter. This also is why accuracy is improving at an accelerated rate. Will it take? Only time will tell!! I'm sure that George Farquharson dealt with his share of skepticism when he first proposed the idea of Fclass.

"There can be no great Courage where there is no Confidence or Assurance and half the battle is in the Conviction that we can Do what we undertake."

Mike,

And to boot, I was shooting my 223 with the 75 AMaxes. I have the adaptor fixed so that it will lock up tight now. Oh and you can bet your sweet bippie that I am going to do this in a match!
