F-Class: Share the Love...

If anyone from Australia writes in, drop them my details. I,m no guru, but I have shot all over the East Coast in Australia and will be able to help with any local info. I have started quite a few new shooters off and some of them have started taking some bling off me at shoots lately.

Volunteers are just TOO FAR APART and TOO FEW. You try and get something going, a shooting game /discipline/whatnot with promices of help (ya might get'em there the 1st time) but when they see the work load THEY seldom come back. VOLUNTEERS ARE the SPORT, without them this and every other Sport would FAIL along with other Programs such as FAS/Local Little Leagues/SPECIAL OLYMPICS etc. They ask nothing but, a thank you , a handshake or a wave is allways appreciated.

Rdavies,

Awesome, we have now gone Global! Thanks for stepping up.

CJ6; Unfortunatly I knew the answer as I posted that thought, I am in agreeance 110%. It has been my experience, regardless of what kind of club one is in, from Archery to Sausage Making, 10% of a "club" membership are composed of those that make it happen and are the backbone of the "club. 40% of a "club" membership have good intentions & volunteer when they can 3 out of 5 times. The remaining 50% of "club"membership, just want to pay their annual dues and reap the benefits.

But.......... If we can inspire 10 people to try our sport & give it a shot. We should be able to retain 1 hardcore member, 4 well intentioned members. And honestly, I'll take the 4 well intentioned members over the single hardcore. Cause 1 person can't do it all without eventually getting burnt out or afflicted with a Napoleon Complex...

But the more we discuss this issue, the more its read and as a result, just maybe a few more people to share the firing line with!!

Rod,
I just saw that you had a newbie in the Pittsburgh area..... Send me a PM... I run the matches at Sportsmen's Assn. of Greensburg - It's 35 miles east of Pittsburgh. We run mid-range (500 yard) NRA Prone\ F-class matches (as well as x-course NRA HP).... usually 6 or 7 mid range matches from April through October....

Next match is August 19... BTW - we run 2x500....

Shot my first registered match on Sunday, a 600 yard prone, 3 matches, 20 rounds each. I scored a 583-13, I am not unhappy with that, for a Grand Senior Newbie. Winner scored 595-31. This is with my new Savage 12 in 6BR. Got some much needed advice on reloading. As I understand it, another 60 round match like that, and I get my classification. I am hooked. This stuff is really addictive! Tiring on a hot day, but much better than bullseye pistol or an IDPA match, IMHO.

We had a very successful class sunday. Mr Siracusa was on his game and so was Mr Ross. The class took us by surprise and showed up well prepared. They took it to the goal line like nothing I've seen before. We are learning to concentrate on the fundamentals and let the details take care of themselves. The group became a team and supported each other through their test. I'm very proud of all of them.

That is inspiring information Immike on the St. Louis club LR shooting class. Sounds like a real success story, no matter how you look at it.

Thank you for sharing.
