F-class scoring

Interested in getting into F-class and was wondering if I'm understanding the scoring somewhat that follows on most all ranges. X-ring size is basically 1/2 MOA depends on yardage and 10 ring is 1 MOA and depends yardage as well. X-10 count the same and most X-rings determine winner. Only 2 sighter allowed ( No Practice) before record sring counts. Thanks Bill

X-count only determines the winner in the even of ties. Points come first. Many matches have unlimited sighters for all strings, some for just the first string and, less commonly, two sighters for all strings.

No, that's not correct. The X-ring is about 0.5 MOA, regardless of "yardage" and the 10-ring is about 1.0 MOA, again regardless of the "yardage."

As explained earlier, the number of points is is more important than the X-count, which is only used to break ties.

The sighters vary by match and/or distance; best to check the program for the match you shoot in.

Except for 300 yards, where the ten ring is .9 MOA and X .45 MOA. It is the only distance that varies significantly.

That's what I was wondering mainly on was the sighters. Take raton coming up for example. do the guys get only two sighters no practice. I guess maybe start a match on light fouled barrel but can see where this could really be a challenge with multiple strings though the day and cleaning the barrel in between strings, seems you would really need to know how many rounds it takes your gun to settle in and what it does until it does on hold as well and wind condition changes. Dang I thought I was doing okay in practice but I guess I'm cheating myself with to many sighters, say 4. guess I better pay more attention on cold bore shot through two for sighter and at what point it settles in. I kinda like it more now that I see how it works.. very challenging. Thanks Bill

Hence my use of the word "about".

You guys are forgetting 800 and 900 yards, in which case, we shoot at the 1000 yard target.

Boiler house, we don't clean between strings, there is no time as we have to go to the pits and pull targets. We shoot all day on a dirty barrel.

That's funny steve, sounds like I may look like a 7 day elk hunt if I go to a match, surely I won't smell as bad. is a coated bullet something to look at with so many rounds through the barrel. Thanks for all the input. Bill

Most shoot naked bullets, they shoot just fine.

Just so you know. In Ration this year, there are two very different formats. The Nationals will be shot all at 1000 yards 15 shot strings U/2/2. The Worlds will be 800/900/1000 15 shots 2/2/2 . I don't have the program in front of me but I think there are no unlimited sighters at the Worlds. Need to check tomorrow.

You guys need to read rules, programs and in this case the "Nice to Know Information" sheets http://www.baldeaglesrc.org/Resources/Documents/Info%202013%20FCW%20Nice%20to%20Know%20Pack%20ver%20C.pdf more often. The 2nd day of the FCWC individual Championship is 2 convertible +15 record at 800 & 900 and 2 convertible +20 record at 1,000 yards. More than one person has gone to the line in an FCWC with too few rounds of ammo. You can tell by the mad dash back for more ammo when the score keeper says, "you have 5 more to go" just after the shooter breaks position.

A few months ago, I put together a small spreadsheet to help me figure out the round count I needed to load for the upcoming events.

I'm not really good at HTML formatting, I only do C, Cobol, Pascal, Fortran, Basic and SPL.

I am attaching the small spreadsheet here but in a nutshell, if someone is going to shoot in both events, and on a team AND do the practice round on Friday, the total is about 453 rounds. There are 3 days when the first match is unlimited sighters, so I allocated 5 shots for each of those first matches and another 45 rounds for the practice day.

Nationals practice: ? (20 rounds)
Nationals Individual: 155 rounds.
Nationals Team: 44 rounds
Nationals Total: 199 rounds + Practice

World's practice: ? (45 rounds)
World's Individual: 107 rounds
World's Team: 102 rounds
World's total: 209 rounds + Practice.

ETA: I added the Nationals practice day, which I had originally left out. Updated spreadsheet attached.

Larry, the document to which you linked has this statement on page 6 about the Nationals:

Thur 22 August 2013 Day 3 of Individual FCN @ 1,000 yds
2 strings of 20 shots
1st string w/ unlimited sighters, next two have 2 sighters

Next two what? The line before says there are only two strings of 20 shots on that day.
