F Class Scope Rings???

Joe C

Student of the 1911.
Hello,

So, I have just about everything either here or on the way for my F Class journey. One of the things that is left to get sorted out is scope rings. I have two Sightron SIII's on the way to use on two different open class rifles.

My question is what have you guys tried that worked and that you liked? Is it best to go with QD type mounts when shooting F Class so you can remove the scopes during storage and travel? Do you lap the rings as I have in the past with other rings on rifles?

Any of your thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Sir
I use Seekins rings adn HIHGLY recommend them they are bullet proof and reqruied no lapping on my rifle (20 MOA base also used).

Another fine choice that I have used is Burris Signature Z rings. Advantage there is you can get inserts to achieve 20 MOA elevation without a 20 MOA base AND the inserts protect your scope (they are some type hard palstic)

Good luck

Joe, You will find alot of Signature Zee Rings used and favored here, (I think). I know I do use em on my 2 F-Class rigs. Highs on the NF NBR 12-42x56 and Extra Highs on my SIII 10-50x60. On the SIII, you can get by with the highs, but I use Rick Averill's leather caps so I need the extra highs.

No ring marks, allows me to use my scopes from 100-1200 yds with the inserts and a 20moa rail. And with a picatinny rail, I can pull it off and one with ease.

Yup, I like em!!

FWIW, I have used the Leupold QRW rings for the past few years and they work great. I like to store my rifles without the scopes on them (my safe is not that large) and I share my single match scope between two rifles, so the QRW rings make it easy. The only "complaint" I have is that the rail design is for weaver type rails and not picatinny so you have to pin them down pretty tight. They hold zero very well when swapping on and off the rifle. I install the scope right before a match and it's right back where I had it zero'd.

I'm also trying out a new set of rings from these guys:

I know the guy who designed them (Chris LeFort) as he shoots a lot of the matches I shoot around here and he's a good guy as well as a good shooter. They seem to be very well made, great contact on the tube and the tops and bottoms are pinned to help ensure equal pressure. They are not exactly quick release, but the scope can still be removed easily enough and swapped to my other rifle. I haven't shot with them yet, but they pass the eye test so far as they look pretty good on my rifle.

In all cases, I prefer low rings- I like the scope to be as low to the rifle as possible, but that's just personal preference. I don't think height makes any difference in accuracy, it's simply what's comfortable for you.

I use Nightforce Ultralights on all my F-Class rifles, both T/R and Open. No problems and they are pretty light. They have a large hex nut that I prefer for torque wrench use.

For heavy recoiling rifles like my 300 win mag I am using a set of badger rings. I bought them as they were the only rings my shop had in stock when I upgraded to a 30mm tube on my scope for that rifle. I ended up really liking them just from how solid they are. My 700SA has the Zee rings with inserts and I love that set up for the lighter weight. As far as quick detach are you looking for something with a lever system like Larue mounts or something like Mk 4 rings from Leupold with a torque wrench? I only use the lever style mounts on my semi auto rifles and carbines as I swap those ones out all the time and I'm not to concerned with an exact zero as the target is usually <25 yards.

I use Seekins rings. Used their 20 MOA rail on previous rifle. New Eliseo tube gun included a pinned 20 MOA rail and the rings worked with it as well.
