Burris signature Zee Rings Recommendation

My wife and I both shoot F-class...two rifles a piece. We currently have two 12X42 Nightforce and two Leupold 6.5 X 20 scopes sitting in Badger rings. Other than being pricey, these rings work great.

In preparation for the F-class Nationals in March, I have upgraded one of the 6.5 X 20's to another 12 X 42 Nightforce Benchrest model. Since the internal elevation and windage is limited on these scopes, I am thinking of trying the Burris Zee rings with the offset inserts. Not a lot of time for testing, so the question is:

Is anyone using or tried these rings and what are your thoughts?

I used the search funciton and found quite a few posts. Most of the posts are selling the rings.

Ted,

I use them on my Eliseo stocked F/TR rifle, and I've seen them on other long-range rifles over here in the UK too. They do work very well indeed, both as mounts like any others, and in using offset inserts to slope the scope for long-range shooting.

I've been very pleased with mine, and I've never heard or read anything bad about them by actual users. Some people don't like them on principle taking the view that nylon shell inserts must be inferior to a precision machined and lapped set of high grade conventional aluminium alloy mounts.

The base of the mounts can be a little tight on the scope / Picatinny rail and you may need to spring them ever so slightly apart to fit them without an almighty struggle. I certainly don't regard mine as QD.

QD - Quick Disconnect. Being they don't tip off like your Badger's do they have to be slid off toward the muzzel down the entire length of your picatinny rail which is a bit of a pain as they fit fairly tight. If your not into swapping scopes around a lot they do a great job. I never had one slip or leave ring marks on a scope.

Regards
RJ

Ted: Use the .020" off-set ring inserts in both the front and rear scope rings, and you'll have all the "up" adjustment you will need---- almost as much as going with a 20 degree off-set base.

I use them on quite a few rifles. Make sure when, and if, you order that you specify Burris Signature Series Z Rings. The regular Z ring does not have the insert and is a standard ring that will fit a Weaver or Picatinny base. The offset inserts are great as you can use the amount of offset to help you when shooting distance.

I've used them for quite a while, and my only complaint is the cross bolts. I've managed to twist off two of them! They have lots of grip on the scope tube, and the offsets rings are the cat's a$$ for getting the most out of limited elevation scopes. I run a 12-42 BR too.

All,

Thanks for the comments. Seems to be two "weaknesses", both of which seem to be easily fixed.

(1) Need to "spread" the connection so that it will slide onto a base.
(2) Cross screw needs to be replaced. While slotted head is "okay" it is not as friendly as a Torx head.

Unless someone knows the size (length, diam, thread ptich) of a replacement screw, I will wait until I get a set in my hands to hunt down Torx head or hex head replacement screws. Just hoping that it is a "standard" thread that I can find at my local hardware store.

The Signature Zee's are the only rings I'll buy anymore. The inserts protect your scope, and the possibility of using offsets allows you to get extra elevation, or correct windage for a bad barrel. I've not had a problem with the standard cross bolts either, possibly because I use a good fitting bit in a B-Square screwdriver on them.

Since you'll be getting 30mm rings for the Nightforce, they'll come with size 10 inserts plus the non-offset ones. That should be fine for 1000yds if you use the +10 in the bottom rear and the -10 in the bottom front.

The only weak point is the cross bolt, fixed that. they are great,0,10 20,30 and 40 min.of angle and no marks on the scope.......jim

Tcon260,

My Burris Signature ring cross bolts are 6-40 x 1". Most hardwars stores will have 6-32s but not 6-40s. Fastenal has 6-40 socket head cap screws, but in box lots.

If you find them in onsey-twoseys, please let me know where.
