F class open expert...at 8 years old

I have shot with al lip ski and I know he is a great shooter and machinist. I kind of figured that the article on the bulletin about his 8 year old daughter shooting a 200-11 and then a 594 in a 3x600 would get some chatter here? She is a card carrying expert in f open....that is some fine shooting.

Yes sir that is. And she woke up some shooters I bet!! Those pictures will be priceless someday. That's the kinda stuff every father hopes for.

just saw pic's of this young lady on the bulletin board! the rifle is taller the her!!! What an incredible job!!!!

I bet you cant do this http://www.6mmbr.com/gunweek100.html. Give it a try then tell us its a turkey shoot

She shoots like this at 8 years old. One day SOON she will be the one to beat. I hope she keeps shooting. She is the future of the sport

I never won a turkey shoot either.

You are trying to tell me an 8 yo knows more about position, shot execution, and conditions than an adult who has shot for years?

Color me skeptical.

Seems like every other week I'm reading about some new f-class phenom who came out of nowhere.

Some people are born with natural ability that far excedes the norm.....the rest of us are jealous

I think the 4 foot tall gorilla in the room is this...

We don't see many 8 year old experts in Palma. Is it because they are not strong enough to hold the rifle? Are there more mechanics than f class? I don't know.
I am the first guy to deal out a little good natured ribbing it the f class guys. I bust balls all the time...some of them get mad and defensive, some take it as the joke it is. When they get mad and call my target a "Helen Keller" target I always just say...

Let's swap equipment right now and shoot for a $100 bucks....that usually ends the "argument". I know there are lots of f class people that have or do shoot sling. I would be interested to hear from them.

That's my point she shot it she earned it. Nobody shot the scores for her. I would rather get beat by an 8yo girl than my shooting buddies.

Why does F-class seem like a turkey shoot?

How are you f/class scores. Have you ever shot it

Part of the fclass success is that you can shoot a satisfying score readily with reasonable efforts and decent equipment. Not that you will win easily but it has a alluring percentage of satisfaction on the paper that shows that you have a chance of getting somewhere with it. I have been in shooting for awhile and I am aware of this balance that creates interest in a match or sport.

I'll take that bet Chris.

The folks that stick with TR (or SR) do so because they they have the aptitude for it and/or are just determined to. In addition, they have on average, been shooting many more years. That results in the average skill level being stratified at the higher end. It may appear to take longer for a new TR shooter to reach that average and to be consistently competitive.

Having said that, be careful assuming that F-class is easier, which was why I took your bet. From my own personal experience, it took me 4 years, starting from zero competition experience, to earn my Distinguished Rifleman Badge in SR (#1159, in 1995). Then I got my Palma rifle and it took me another 2 years before I began winning matches and aggs at the Nationals (Army Cup '97, was the first). I have been shooting F/TR full time for two years and occasionally for the prior twelve and I have not won any major individual matches yet.

Assuming that they have the aptitude, it is going to take a new shooter 4-6 years to become consistently competitive at the high end of F-class which seems to me to be about the same learning curve as TR or SR.

F-class' skill distribution spans a much wider area than does TR (perhaps not SR). In other words there are a lot more new F class shooters, so there is a much wider opportunity for new F shooters to win a match here and there than there is in TR where the rankings are more stratified.

Furthermore, Beau's skepticism stems from a lack of knowing Ms. Lipski's background. While she may not have the tens of thousands of rounds of experience we may have, she has the benefit of the veteran tutoring from her Dad and the desire to learn. That is a potent combination for advancement.
