I recently re-chambered an old 308 Palma and 243 barrel in 30 BR and 6 Dasher respectively on an old,trued)Mauser 98 action.

The purpose was to do fire forming for my new 30 BR Border and 6 Dasher Krieger barrels,we wait 1-2 years for a top barrel over here and they therefore have to last).

I use the Mauser on the farm as a varmint and culling rifle and, apart from finding the short 22" barrels very conveniently, especially the 30 BR turned out to be a real shooter. I consistently get .50" groupings - not bad for a light hunting rifle on a Mauser action.

I however have difficulty in feeding the cases - the feeding plate was previously for a 243 and the extractor sometimes do not slip over the rim.

Should I simply remove the extractor and shoot the rifle as a single shot OR can the feeder plate and extractor be changed for the 6 BR case? If changed, the process must be simple and affordable.

Any advice?

Have you tried one of the single shot followers? I know follow up shots will be slow, but this should be a pretty cheap fix.

I thought that would be the best option.

I presume that the extractor is then still remove to make it a true single action.

Does anyone know what follower should fit the standard lenght 98 Mauser, i.e. does any of the American actions have more or less the same dimensions as the Mauser?

I would leave the extractor in. A single shot follower should allow the extractor to slip over the case rim with no problems. Try it and let us know how it works.

Glad to see you at least have the test rifle up an running in 30b.
The old Palma barrel is it 15 twist and if so what projectiles are you using in the 30Br and what velocity are you getting.
And if you are getting .5 with an old barrel the new one should shoot bloody fantastic.
Will ask the Gunsmith Mate about the Mauser he has just built a 7X47 on the old Mauser VZ24 action Barrel is a PAC-NOR 27inch finished 10 twist we haven't fired it yet but going to use sierra 130gr Match Kings Hoping for over 2800FPS

Aussie Bob, its hectic this time of year and I've thus not spent nearly as much time with the 30 BR as I would have liked to. I've used 125 gr Bergers, but I haven't measured the speed yet. I will let you know.
