Extraction Issues w/Cooper 204

Brass needs less sizing- as chamber is longer

Don’t set the sizing die on the shell holder - get a shoulder gauge of sorts and use it- keep brass separate for each-

Load up 1rd -midway book velocity-jam a bullet into the lands- save the case to measure off of-

Action is good for any caliber / cartridge-.375” boltface-(223)
They did chamber a few in PPC- had lug shearing on some-so they quit doing the .440” bolt face on the M21.

I have the 2 204s and I FL sized the brass to shoot out of both until I figured out which 1 I was going to keep. I'm pretty much feed up with the 204s now. I'm interested about what you said about rechambering. I will do the case to measure from. I may ask additional questions about the rechambering if you don't mind?

I get what Gabe is saying, but if it was extracting fine (30 brass) then stopped, it's not a reloading issue and I think everyone can agree it should extract new brass and factory ammo. Based on what the OP said, it does not.

Even if you are FL resizing and causing massive headspace issues, your rounds and brass should always extract. If the chamber was so long that the extraction channel was too far forward, I'm guessing it would fail the no-go gage. Not extracting cases and excessive headspace, two completely different things.

Seriously? 204 has nothing to do with your issues.

I will wait for the bore scope next week and then I may be talking to you about changing!

Well I changed one of mine just because I wanted it chambered in something else. Just meant kinda drastic move compared to simply getting it fixed. If the fix was nearly as costly as doing something different, that's another story.

Maybe this is it? Hawkeye scope shows nothing. I did take several new pieces of brass and 2 factory loaded rounds. A few did extract, guy with the Hawkeye ran bolt and when he closed it he could tell if it was one of the few would extract. obviously with the limited knowledge I have of sizing cases that Im getting a slight donut and the case doesn't go in correctly. Probably not saying the correct terms. Shoot and fireform? I've heard that term quite a bit but didn't understand why. Brass was from the Nosler 250 quantity bag that needs additional work to use. Going to shoot it but that is probably a couple weeks out. Thanks for all the help and hopefully I can learn how to adjust my dies.

I realize That it's almost a year, but I still haven't shot the 204. Health issues so I just put it on the backburner. Still on my to do list. Usually go to garage and house. Starting to run grandchildren around so hopefully when the weather gets warmer and I'm slowing healing I will get back out.

If I add the brass under the extractor and close the bolt it does extract.

I had a similar issue with my 223 model 21, it was cured by a light stoning on the bottom of the extractor hook. It was just thick enough that it sometimes would not hook the rim. Your putting the brass under the extractor and it working points out that you likely have the same issue.
