Experience with Small item Shipping Costs

Ordered a couple light items from a highly reputable shooter's supply house. Went to check out and the items themselves totaled $18.98...added tax was $2.56 and shipping was...wait for it...$21.92 and take 7 to 10 days! Both items together weigh less than a pound and the package is about the size of two hands pressed together.

I can get 100 pounds of lead shipped to me for $30. USPS FLAT RATE BOXES..

I don't want to call the seller out because I've always had good relationships with them in the past. I did send an email questioning the costs and am waiting for the answer. I was in total shock when I saw the total and immediately stopped the order process.

What in your opinion is not excessive? Small flat rate box is $10+ now. Not in a box means you will not get it. They are not making squat if your total product was less than $20. Go to the local store and try to find it.

To each his own, I often shop by shipping costs.

I worked in the shipping department for a small company in 2014. I was the last in the line, i checked the orders, sealed the box and slapped the shipping label on it. We used UPS for most everything. Our markup was 40% of actual cost.

$10 I can see and grudgingly accept, but $21.92 for a package weighing less than a pound? And 7 to 10 days? If the seller can't make a profit at those levels, post a minimum purchase price or simply not sell the items.

And, as an update, I just found the identical items at another retailer. Cost and tax nearly identical to the price from the first seller. Shipping (from nearly twice as far away) is $8.30 and it should be here Saturday. Guess which seller I will patronize?
