excessive cock on close, **updated/resolved**

He's right but some are worse than others. Just call them and talk with them, and go from there. I'd be shocked if it was bad enough to cause any physical problem, like galling but just give them a call. If nothing else, it'll be worth some piece of mind. Again, some cock on close really boils down to feel rather than anything performance wise. Had one in the shop a while back that I imagine is similar to yours. I did use a different hanger and massaged things a bit to make it a little better without going all in on it. I don't remember the exact numbers but I think it was still at .245 pin fall when I called it good enough.

I really wouldn't call it a quality issue but more of an intentional design aspect. Some of it is the rather abrupt transition of the closing cams. You can carefully break the edges ther, both inside the action and on the leading edge of the bolt lugs to smooth it out just a tad bit without changing anything about pin fall or anything. A little goes a good way here but it won't change the amount of cock on close, just smooth out the abrupt transition to it some.
Perfect explanation. I’ll give them a call Monday and report back here. That’s what I’m worried about. That abrupt transition. I could care less about the feel at this point. Just want to make sure there isn’t an actual mechanical issue. Thanks for all the reply’s to you and everyone else. It really is appreciated. I know everyone here knows the feeling of getting somthing expensive and it not living up to expectations.

May have already been stated... It's worth looking at a bix tac sport trigger. You'll get ~16 thou more pin fall (if you need it, I think Alex gave the ideal numbers earlier) - and they have different sears so you can get the right height.

That's kinda the problem. Kelbly's is likely to either fix it if it has an actual problem or tell you that it is meant to be that way. What I mean is, smoother isn't necessarily better even though it feels nice. Some would consider a product built with some margin built into it to be better than not. What some call "perfect handoff", can reasonably be called asking for trouble. Hope you understand what I'm trying to say. I don't want to argue with anyone what "perfect" is. It may be different to some people for the reasons I mentioned.
I can certainly see both sides of it. No different IMHO than setting a trigger absolutely as light as it can be. The risk is real of a slam fire. Well...that's what zero handoff is exactly like. Just because something can be done doesn't necessarily mean it should be. Either way, Kelblys builds a very good product. That goes without saying.

Random side note re: Origin. I have one with a TT Special trigger, which is the only trigger I’ve tried with it. I don’t have it in front of me to measure anything, but it has plenty of fall, and a very smooth opening / closing. Mileage apparently varies.

Absolutely. If I remember right for a small fee Zermatt would time/tune the Origin with your trigger. Like stated in post 2 or 3 a call to Kelbys on his Atlas is a great first move.

If you have the parts, assemble the rig and try it like you intend to use it.

Holding the action outside of the stock without the weight of the setup isn't a good test. My early Origin action acted similar. Its not designed for benchrest.
I am going to be looking for a chassis to buy probably next week...used. From here. Haha. But I do have a Kestros I will put it in and see how it feels. Thanks for the idea.

@Evlshnngns I don’t have action screws for the stock, but I just plopped it in and pinched it with my hand and ran the bolt quick. It definitely feels smoother. Still hurting that wall as described but it’s definitely less.

@LVLAaron looking at the bix, tac sport pro. Looks really nice. Never owned a bix trigger.

Check the new bix tac sport pro X. It's about the same price as the TT Diamond, and twice the trigger... plus more pin fall. Bix is the standard BR/F-class trigger...I wont say standard, but I'd guess MOST people are using them. I had 3 TT Diamonds, and I loved them... once I found the tac sport pro X... I sold all the diamonds and got bix.

^^^This!^^^

No idea if you have an issue or not, but with the action out of the stock, cock on close can easily feel terrible.

All the Kelbly actions I have ever seen do not cock on closing. I have a Kodiak currently but am around Pandas etc, and none of them do what you are experiencing. have you mounted the hanger backwards perhaps? That will cause similar problems sometimes.

Kelbly actions have always been a cock on close action. That is if you set it up with the recommended pin fall it will have cock on close.
Take your pick of opinions! Love it.
Thoroughly enjoy threads like this, just soaking up as much info as possible from people with way more experience and wisdom than I. Just can't believe nobody's "screaming " yet.

Absolutely zero offense to anyone here, but Al is correct and I am the one who is actually muddying the waters. I think if people watch the video I posted in the thread, that will help clear things up. I’m a newbie to all of this. Hopefully I can get a response tomorrow.

Not meant for you at all, Kevin. :) It's like the use of 'headspace' when we refer to shoulder bump back. And God help those trying to follow along when the talk terms to 'jam' in a seating depth discussion. It gets pretty confusing for those trying to learn. And those of us those mean one thing but call it something else.

Looking forward to hearing what Kelbly's says. Jim and Caleb have always gone above and beyond for my small needs.
