Chilean Mauser 95 cock on close help

i have a Chilean M95 mauser in 7x57— it is a cock on close model. the cocking piece/pin fall is an honest 1”
this takes a strong shove to close the bolt.
It seems like this gun would shoot reliably with much less pin fall. is this true?
would putting in a longer firing pin to reduce fall work? would it help any?
are any pins available to do this or can i convert a certain model pin?

I have the same gun. It’s a great oldie. I like the nuances of old guns and accept them for what they are. I’ve read about modifications being done. I hope some one chimes in for you.
I shot my old Smith Corona 03-A3 for the first time, a couple days ago. The bolt wouldn’t slide back far enough to pick up a round! I fiddled with it and found out what the little lever on the side does and what “ON” means. Neat old rifle. Didn’t kick too bad with 125s.

thanks dave—I definately want to enjoy it for what it is. Its also my first center fire rifle so ive had it for nigh on 50 years. its just Im getting to week to be able to close the bolt lol. hope youre doing well these days.

Im sure not gonna do any modifications like try to convert to cock on open ect. and never planned to. After looking at it more ive decided to try different FP springs and see if that would help. thats prob all i will do. thanks. i may need to exercise more thats true.
