exact dies

You seem to have reversed your opinion from a moment ago.
Perhaps I'm wrong
Yeah. You're wrong. As I stated, a newbie following the crowd. Don't disregard the old-timers with decades of experience. Not much has changed. Barrels are now made to much tighter tolerances. Even factory made bullets are gaining ground, as compared to our boutique bullet makers. Reloading presses do the same thing they have always offered. Ram up, ram down. Properly made and fitted dies make the difference, as do modern powders and quality brass. The procedures used to make it work has not changed. You do your part, and your equipment and components will give you what you want. Spending money for the latest and greatest is not going to make you a record breaker. First place is the winner. The silver/bronze means nothing more than "I was in the running".

Some know and some not, some understand and some not.... some like to learn and some not, some say they know it all and some not, some have the $500 and some not.

Thank you,
Boy, Mr Guffey sure catches a lot of hell
around here.

Reminds me when they went for the digital head space gage; they were going goo, goggle and 'glick' and singing the praises and merits of the tool. The tool was not a head space gage, at best it was a comparator. Two precision micrometer manufacturers had the gage listed as a dial indicator stand. And it got worst, they got all giggly about the three point contact. I thought someone should give a little credit to the man that built the first three legged milk stool or three legged chair or table.

I was told you offer exact fit reloading dies.

How do you fit them to my particular chamber?

Hi Al

Thank you for your email.

The Exact Sizing Die System comes complete with a Golden Case & a Head Space Gauge. This is then used to set up the die according the zero head space of the Golden Case. You then measure the head space of your fireformed case. The head space of our Exact Die is tactile or “click” adjustable in 0.0005” increments. It is then very easy to now dial the die’s head space to your chamber’s dimension, ensuring a perfect fit with “butter feeling” bolt closure.

I think it will be easy for you to understand if you go to our web site and have a look at our “Set-Up” instructions.

Please let me know if you have any further questions.

Kind Regards

So you make no provision for diameter and taper?

Hi Al

We in fact do make provision for diameter and taper . . .

1. We machine our case sleeve to +- 10 micron from your chamber diameter according to SAAMI specification, which ensures for a custom fit and that you don’t over size your brass in the diameter.

2. We manufacture necking bushes in 0.0005” according to your chamber specification in order to make provision for custom diameter fit over the neck area.

Please let me know if you have any further questions.

Kind Regards

Not wanting to drift to far off topic but, with all the hell he gives and catches.......
Anybody else ever wonder if Mr Guffy might have apprenticed under this character?

A reloader could buy 2 or 3 custom sizers for the same money.

I believe the reloader should invest time studying and I believe they should spend a little time determining fact from fiction. Before the Internet the case did not have head space, SAAMI does not list head space for the cases. SAAMI chamber drawings do not include the symbol for head space, their drawings of the chamber does include the symbol for head space.

The Wilson case gage is not a head space gage, it is a case gage, for years reloaders called it a drop-in gage and used their thumb nail to make wild guestimate measurements.

And then there was this bench rester that claimed reloaders should do it like bench resters; he claimed bench resters full length size their cases every time and he claimed they have been doing it for decades. I was the only one to say "THAT IS THE SILLIEST THING I HAVE EVER HEARD" (OR READ). After that he started suggesting reducing the fired length of the case the magic .002".

It is my belief that the majority of benchrest shooters full length resize their cases every time, generally using custom or semi-custom dies that are close to the actual chamber dimensions. This provides minimal brass sizing to achieve an excellent case to chamber fit while still allowing the gun to cycle smoothly. I don't think there are too many benchrest shooters that neck size only anymore.

This is where the email string stopped..... I sent one more in that exchange asking "so how do I get you the dimensions from my chamber?? Should I send you some fired cases or will written dimensions suffice?"

crickets......

yeah...but...but...

Even though it won't be close to your chamber dimensions it still does all that other cool stuff. You know you want the golden bullet and scissor looking thing.

Your belief would be correct. Neck sizing fell out of favor in the 50’s. it makes for new members though when they come here to solve a problem

I must say though. I have 3 of the Harrell's PPC dies and they seem to work very well. Good semi-custom solution at a price that can't be beat. Was able to help the neighbor pretty quickly and get him going with his new PPC. Wasn't hard to find the die that worked with his chamber.
