Erik Cortina Produces Informative Videos

Without a doubt Erik Cortina has done more to enhance the world of competitive shooting in the USA than anyone over the past 60 years in my opinion! Through the world of F-Class shooting Erik has brought through his development of his videos on YouTube an untold number of new shooters. I am an old XTC or NMC shooter having come up through the ranks shooting with USARADCOM rifle team and the AMU at Ft. Benning Ga. and as much as I hated to see that course of fire and participation decrease these past few years, it's a breath of fresh air to see the F-Class shooting world accepted so well! My hats off to Mr Cortina so please keep up your good work sir!

The two Jim Borden videos are are absolute money. Good stuff in there from a HOF member and pioneer in action building.

In one of them Jim explains why if he were to shoot F-Class he would use a #17 HV taper instead of a straight truck axle due to the broader tune range in a less stiff barrel with a contour.

Cortina's content has made me a better shooter.

I heard Erik say something on one video that when he loads his COAL is left a tat long. It reminded me years ago when I was still shooting Service Rifle in NMC that there was no 7.62 match ammo for the Leg matches...only 150 grain in brown box. That stuff was built for combat basically with a black colored goo around the lower portion of the bullet I guess supposedly making it water proof. It wasn't the best for accuracy running it through the M-14 but in two matches I shot using it I took my in-line seating tool and I reseated the bullet just 10/1000 downward and it shot great as the seal was broken in the neck of the case. If I were shooting matches today I'd do the same thing Erik does....leave long and reseat before match event! Brass will take a 'set' if loaded for a length of time and even though a sizing mandrel has been used....it'll blow neck tension to hades and back!!

Winning in the wind by Keith Glasscock is another great series. He's no longer shooting F class but even though he shoots PRS now, he does an excellent job of covering topics in every video that crosses over to multiple disciplines. He conveys the reasoning and outcome of choices and how to apply it to whatever you shoot. I recently had a short discussion with him regarding his unique trigger hand position and trigger press, he explained his reasoning for it, how he tested it, and how I could try it out. I found it didnt work for me, but he got me thinking about exploring everything about my shooting system.

Eric Cortina videos are about the who and when, F Class John is great about the what and Keith explains the why. I think all 3 are worth it as a whole.

I would disagree with you. If you have above average IQ and listen with discernment to all of his video's you will catch him pulling back right as they get near any cutting edge info. This is especially true on the topic of how tuners work. You will catch him and his guests almost spilling the beans but pulling back. If you have ever interogated people like a police officer or someone in human intelligence you will spot it ever single time! It is not even subtle!

You have to be an insider to get the whole truth. It is not that any of these guys are evil they just are not truthful becaue they have a vested interest in holding their secrets for competitive advantage both in terms of business and in terms of competitive advantage. I do not even care really what I hate is that they act as if they are magnanimious(sp) and up front and honest when they are not. It goes to integrity and honesty. Better to say nothing than to lie. A lie of omission is still a lie.

Not everyone has the gift of discernment I would say it is a fairly uncommon which explains the state of the world. You will see this almost every place online. When Jeff Siewert is interviewd on Hornadys YouTube channel you can see him tip-toe around some subjects and answers because the truth would not go over well or he was warned by Hornady not to talk about some subjects.

It just depends on what level you are listening at and what your level of science and engineering is. I have thousands of books in my home and not a one of them in my collection is fiction. I get about 3 news books months.

I am not a fan of people urinating in my face and telling me it's raining! It has nothing to do with how good of a competitor you are or if your products are good it has to do if you are a liar or not. It has to do if you will ge a good mentor. It has to do with burning the bridge after you cross into the promised land!

This sight is full of gate keepers due to sponsors. I get threatened all the time to back off. It is only when I am telling the truth and it is not popular with a sponsor or I point out something innocently and again a site sponsor does not like it!

The real problem is these sorts want to be popular and praised. They want to be seen as industry leaders and experts. If they keep their mouth shut they will be obsecure nobodies. So they have to talk but say nothing or nothing new! Anyone that speaks the truth or points out that the emperor has no clothes must be purged.

I get purged often. Sponsors hate truth because it get's in the way of profit margins. A well educated consumer if not good for business and facts and sceince are hated. You would think this hobby and industry was sponsored Pfizer! LOL

Erik Cortina is a fantastic business man and competitor.

Regardless of everyone's opinion, I have to agree with @M14AMU that EC has done more to put competitive long range rifle shooting into the spotlight than anyone else. And he is a winner, not just another mouthpiece for the industry. I do agree that he skirts around the issue when it comes to tuners and barrels and techniques, but I can see that. Every rifle out there is different and what may work for one will not work on another.
He always throws out a disclaimer that it is up to the shooter to test what works in his specific platform. And he always emphasizes testing and shooting..."Believe the Target", and not to believe Eric. ;)

I always enjoyed Keith Glasscock's F Class videos. What set him apart was that he always tried to test, collect, and analyze his data. Then present it in a manner that could be understood. I find myself going back and watching his FC videos time and time again. They are classics. Personally, I wish he had stayed with F Class instead of moving on to PRS, but that was his decision, and I respect that.

I tried watching some of Eric's videos and find myself scrolling to find
something relevant. He spends over an hour or more with a guest to
cover something only needing 10 minutes. I did watch the full video
of him with Bart Sauter. Bart was concise and to the point, and looked
like he wanted to be elsewhere.....LOL Eric with Jim Cline is a bonified
classic......It was more of where the bear really craps in the woods. His vids
are just a bit too long winded to sit for the whole deal. I have the one with
Jim Borden ear marked, I would like to go over. Anything with Speedy I'll
try to get too.

It’s all about the “clicks” baby. I’ve never seen anyone make a living off the winnings in the shooting sports. Social media changed the ability to make money off the sport through endless hours of useful/useless entertainment.

Check out some of his latest videos, he does cover a lot of technique about certain aspects of shooting competitively (not just PRS) and can make you think about what you are doing and why are you doing it. When he decided to go to PRS and my F/class scores were climbing i was wanting more and was intending to let my subscription go, but gave it a while longer. I've still picked up a lot of good information and he always has time to answer my questions and offer advice, personally. Thats worth the price to me to support his channel. Of course he has a lot of free videos. He is also very upfront about any product he uses that he buys them retail and is not paid to say whatever the manufacturer wants.

Eric is doing and has done what many do, start out in a discipline, learn it inside out, and then find out how what he knows does or doesn't apply to other disciplines. At the beginning, he was a bit I'm right, the rest are wrong, now, he is realizing that there is more or less to applying what he knows to the other disciplines. It's interesting to watch the progression and changes and admissions.
I found a lot of his info to be stuff I kinda knew about, or had my own ideas about, or had observed and never really thought about as to how to express, some of which he consolidated or presented in a manner that put it together, some reinforced, not that much in the way of new, other than maybe covering ign systems with Speedy. Lots of that info I may never put to use, but, nice to be aware of, helps to understand what could be causing issues, how to prevent some issues. If you listen to him long enough, he gives away his "secrets" in bits and pieces, and other people fill in some of his blanks.
I've found Glasscock to be probably as good, in different ways maybe better, F-Class John the same. Primal Rights is a guy that dives into rabbit holes, not wrong, just a bit of a zealot, and it's good info to be aware of. I like Little Crow a lot, his presentation is a pretty good summary of loading for some more practical stuff, and keeping in mind portions of what the others talk about, ie; saying this is neccessary, this is going down rabbit holes you most likely don't really need to explore, your choice.
I like some of the Hornady podcasts too, they start conversations and help educate folks as well. Vast difference between making 1 or 10 million rounds for one or ten or 100 catridges to fit 2000 or 200,000 or 2mil different guns and work as well as factory ammo does. There are things they have constraints on getting into, which is a shame, like to see or hear more about some of the stuff they go thru.
And like with many things, the more I learn, the less I know, no shortage of gray areas with ammo and shooting.
