ERIK CORTINA - PRIMER TESTING?

On the other hand, I liked the first part regarding OBT and what Chris was actually addressing, which as it turned out was different from the "bending" harmonics I thought he was addressing. My mind is still trying to process what he was saying about the expansion and contraction of the barrel and it's travel along the barrel. o_O  For the rest of the video, I would have liked to hear more from Chris Long and less from Erik Cortina (not that I don't like Erik).
Same here, I really wanted to hear what Chris had to say. As soon as he started to get into his updated theory Erik took over talking duties for the next 45 mins.

I remember reading his stuff when it came out but that's the first time I've heard an interview with him. I appreciate that he did so much work on his initial theory but has been willing to keep updating his thinking as more information is gathered.

Primers move the node. So you have to shoot groups at multiple charges with each primer to make sure you cover the node. Your not looking for the smallest group your looking for the primer that shoots the best out of tune.
Alex,
I have a 300win mag load that was producing 1.90" @ 400yrds consistently with CCI 250's. ES/18 or so and majority of shot dispersion was vertical. I thought perhaps a primer test was in order as the vertical dispersion tells me "combustion". I did a primer test with several standard and magnum primers using the same load. Fed 210 was tight and more even with the water line but WLR''s gave me 5 shots within .78". I was thrilled but of course I have to reload to see if it duplicates. I'm running 71.4 gr RL-23 with 210 Berger VLD. Given your comment, if my new laser load doesn't duplicate would you suggest trying say 71.0 to 71.8 with the new prospective primers? Of course, monitoring pressure...or is this approach too simplistic?

Yes, ideally you want to see both sides of your good powder charge. That way if the primer moves it you will at least know which way to go. With a hunting rifle, sometimes I will just do a 5 shot ladder with each primer covering some powder charge. With something that can handle a little more heat I will shoot groups. The little ladders actually work well.

Does EC have a site or some place to watch all of his vids? Seems like the only way I ever see any of his videos is when someone on this site links to one.
Dave
For free content he has 2 YouTube channels - one is titled Eric Cortina, the other is titles Believe the target. The latter is primarily long form interviews with many of the big names in competitive shooting of several types, the first original channel is more of him and his reloading techniques, info about his products and business etc.

Personally, I enjoy his videos but I do agree with others that as of late he seems to be dominating the conversations a bit too much. Some of the interviews are really informative.

He also has a subscription service on his website I think, private forum and more videos perhaps? I'm not a member, not sure I've ever been to it actually.

Pictures of different primer flash, interesting, wish there was more. Big differences.

I will tell you that pistol related, standard Winchester primers
sent a wax bullet much faster then Remington's. Alcans were
lucky to make it to the target.
