Equifax Settlement - You likely qualify for $125

One caveat here is there is a total of $31 million set aside for this $125 deal and there will be proration if enough people claim it. If a million people claim it seems like people would get roughly $31 each.

The much larger sums in the hundreds of millions mentioned in the settlement are for people who can document actual loss up to $20k.

You misread it. If your info was exposed, they will pay. If you incurred additional expenses, they will pay more.

I should have clarified that my post above did not address the issue of someone who has credit monitoring services; however, I doubt that issue is the point of this thread, or your comment.

Regarding your comment, can you point me to the specific place that supports your assertion?

I'll reference the specific places that support my assertion:

1. Q 7 -- "misuse of your personal information that is fairly traceable to the Data Breach" >>> https://www.equifaxbreachsettlement.com/faq

2. Page 1, under "Cash Reimbursement" -- "because of the Equifax Data Breach" >>> https://www.equifaxbreachsettlement...-6d89a16c0e3f_1033_EFX_-_Final_Claim_Form.pdf

Directly above this, under Credit Monitoring, or $125 cash payment. Cash Reimbursement is what you chose, if you can document expenses. Otherwise, you can choose credit monitoring, or a $125 payment. All of this assumes that your data was exposed. If it wasn’t, you get nothing.

The way I read the stuff, you have to have incurred time or expense BECAUSE of the Equifax breach -- not just have been "put at risk."

How did you determine that you and "the wife" incurred time or expense BECAUSE of the Equifax breach?
You go to the website in the original posting. Put in your last name and last 6 of the SSN and they tell you if you were impacted and take you to an online claim form.

Regarding the part of your post that I highlighted in bold, that only applies if you have credit monitoring and will have it for at least six months. As stated in my post above, "I should have clarified that my post above did not address the issue of someone who has credit monitoring services; however, I doubt that issue is the point of this thread, or your comment." Furthermore, unless the cost you incurred for credit monitoring is LESS than $125, I don't consider getting reimbursed for having credit monitoring as "free" money , since I consider credit monitoring as a waste of money.

The language in the online claim form is consistent with what I've been saying, i.e., no money (except to reimburse for credit monitoring) unless the breach caused you to incur time or expenses. So, back to my first question to you (post # 39 on page 2).

I'm a retired Fed employee and we are still getting credit monitoring from their breach 2 years ago. Looks like it did a lot of good too right?
