Elusive 6 Dasher load

Have you checked over the rifle ? Something loose or something touching that shouldn't? Might want to check your scope, those charge weights are right were a dasher should shoot. The way its throwing fliers something is wrong.

Re-torqued the action bolts. Def free flaoted in an MPA chassis. Scopes good, far as I can tell. Anything else to check? Like you said, it SHOULD be shooting great at these velocities. M4 outta 5 charge weights are 0.75" with an occasionally truly crappy one (1.25" )

I don't know anything about Peterson brass other than the capacity is supposed to be less than Lapua. With that said, if this was MY rifle I would be looking around 32.3 Varget and I'd run that jump test to see if anything sticks it head up. If not, I would be looking to jam that bullet around .010-.012 past my reading with a stoney point tool.

There is nothing wrong with 450's. If you still don't get anything satisfactory, go back to the slow load and/or try a different bullet. No matter how good a bullet might be, some barrels/chambers might not like it.

Thanx. THat's exactly what I loaded up to shoot.... 32.2, 32.3, 32.4 at 50/1000 and 60/1000 to see what I get.

60/1000 put the ogive below the case mouth, so...we'll see.

Any more info on what stoney pt tool?

By that I'm guessing you mean a 0.241 neck on a 0.243 bullet. ???

I'm using a .266 bushing followed by a 6mm mandrel to get 0 0.241 ID neck. Seems to have greatly improved consistency in seating force (K&M arbor press, w / gauge ) and groups slightly. Since I don't turn necks, I use a mandrel to get a consistent ID. Not sure if that's Eric Cortina approved (lol) buts its what I'm trying.

One of you kind souls has been doing his dead level best to help me find a good 6 Dasher load. I won't name his name, as I don't have his permission, but want to say thanx. I feel like I've taken too much of his time already.

Only load I can find (for 600 yd F-class comps, mostly ) to shoot worth a darn is 30.6 gr Varget at 2,820 fps. (Haven't seen RL- 15 / 16 here for 2 years) I know that's a yawning velocity, but since it shoots good, I'm wondering if I should just be happy with it and move on. Honest to goodness, I've tried OCW tests on everything from 30 gr - 33 gr (some 3060 fps) twice and can't find a good load. Never had this kind of trouble before. Gun builder (don't have permission to name him either) told me to call him if I can't find a good load and I will Monday, but don't want to bug him unnecessarily if 30.6 is a legit load for 6 Dasher.

I know the lower velocity will increase the effect of wind. And have more bullet drop over distance, especially if I go to 1000 yds. Looking for the wisdom of more experiences shooters.

Thanx.

I have tried reading most of the posts on this thread and cannot find info on your equipment. Any specs on the barrel such as length, twist, etc. Is this a PRS rifle or BR setup?. Are you using a bipod or a joystick rest?

No problem with running slow if it’s accurate. If the VLD is not performing to your expectations, you should explore another bullet. I suggest a different bullet from the yellow box or green box manufacturers. Stay away from the red boxes if you expect consistent accuracy!

Hornady tool. They bought the original Stoney point, sorry, I forget that. I would have just picked one powder charge to test some seating depth.

I'd try some different bullets. My first 6BR loved the Berger 105VLD's, though it took some work to find the seating depth. My second 6BR didn't like them. A switch to the Berger 108 BT's made it hum. Just my thoughts.

OK -

28" Douglas 1:7.5 bbl. Rem 700 action (about 20+ years old)
MPA chassis
Timney Trigger (says 8 oz but feelsa more like 4. Nie and consistent)
NF NXS scope
F-class intended use.
Dima Rear Bag / RW Hart Comp 2 front rest (nice and stable)

Word up on red box stuff !!!!!!!

I have some MPA and MDT chassis but not the best for good tracking in a rest unless you fabricate or purchase a forend adapter.
I have found that for my use 8tw seem to be easier to tune and more accurate. I’ve played with most flavors of 6mm and found that a good 28”-30” cut rifled barrel in 8tw with .236 or .237 is the ticket to success.
It seems as if you have put in enough time into the vld. I’d try the 105 hybrid, 108 BT or Sierra 107.

Yes your correct.
I use Whidden Dies , I don't get to Fancy . I do sort Bullets , I may have a Box or Two seated for a month so.
I do keep a eye on run out. Not sure spending more will get me much ?
If it works , don't fix it.
Best of Luck

I will help save you some time. These plates work nice on the MPA:
