Elusive 6 Dasher load

OK -

28" Douglas 1:7.5 bbl. Rem 700 action (about 20+ years old)
MPA chassis
Timney Trigger (says 8 oz but feelsa more like 4. Nie and consistent)
NF NXS scope
F-class intended use.
Dima Rear Bag / RW Hart Comp 2 front rest (nice and stable)

Word up on red box stuff !!!!!!!
When your smith built your rifle did he put a new firing pin spring in and check ignition? Id just about be willing to bet if it is the original firing pin spring, that is a lot of your issue.

Although I don't know the velocity, the load that produced the group below has done so in several barrels. It is with 32.2 gr. of Varget, CCI 400 primer, and Berger 108 gr. bullets seated to jump ~ .020. Bart's 105 gr. Infinity bullets shoot as well or better but they are seated about .006 into the lands. One of you kind souls has been doing his dead level best to help me find a good 6 Dasher load. I won't name his name, as I don't have his permission, but want to say thanx. I feel like I've taken too much of his time already.

Only load I can find (for 600 yd F-class comps, mostly ) to shoot worth a darn is 30.6 gr Varget at 2,820 fps. (Haven't seen RL- 15 / 16 here for 2 years) I know that's a yawning velocity, but since it shoots good, I'm wondering if I should just be happy with it and move on. Honest to goodness, I've tried OCW tests on everything from 30 gr - 33 gr (some 3060 fps) twice and can't find a good load. Never had this kind of trouble before. Gun builder (don't have permission to name him either) told me to call him if I can't find a good load and I will Monday, but don't want to bug him unnecessarily if 30.6 is a legit load for 6 Dasher.

I know the lower velocity will increase the effect of wind. And have more bullet drop over distance, especially if I go to 1000 yds. Looking for the wisdom of more experiences shooters.

Thanx.
31.4 gr Varget with the Burger 105 will do it.

My old Dasher barrel liked 32.5 of Varget with 107 Sierra's or 105 Bergers. My new barrel likes around 32grs of N140. I get in the 2920fps range with a 30" barrel length using Peterson Dasher brass.

I read through this and wish had commented earlier.

While the scope is/was a driver of sorts, I think you have bigger fish to fry. Here is a perspective from someone that has worn out a lot of barrels and wasted a lot of components:

A good rifle will never shoot big groups across charges. There is a period at the end of that sentence for a reason. If I think horses instead of zebras, your likely culprits are something loose, a worn out firing pin spring, and the scope. After that, I'd have someone else shoot the rifle. It always amazes me, given my own track record of shooting well, to have someone else shoot smaller with my rifle than I do. If it still won't shoot better than 1/2" at 100 yards CONSISTENTLY, I would start the gut wrenching process of getting a different barrel.

A secondary thought here looking at the group photos posted: The wind had a hand in some of those groups. I see shots stretched out across the zero line on a few of them. I wasn't there when you shot those groups, and the wind would have had to be changing significantly to cause that, but it is a consideration. Set up some simple surveyor tape streamers every 20 yards between you and the target to ensure you aren't getting fooled by the wind.

OCW's ....the groups suck rotten eggs. But does the data tell ya anything ?? Like a nodfe or a charge weight to play with seating depth?

Off lands: 0.030"
Powder: Varget
Primers: CC! 450s
Bullets: 105 Berger VLD's
Brass: Peterson, annealed, sized with 0.266 bushing, then 6mm mandrelled.

if this is at 100yds I would get rid of that barrel, if not disregard my comment.... hope you get it worked out def change barrels

Are you certain your scope is holding zero? I had a similar problem with my last build. After about 100 rounds, finally tried a different scope and first three shot group was almost one hole.
