Electronic hearing protection

I'm looking into purchasing some electronic ear buds. Does anyone have any experience concerning these 2 different brands? I'm also interested in other brands if anyone has one they recommend.

I have the XCOR ones that I got on sale at Cabela's early February to use at the SWN. They try to connect to my phone automatically even with the phone in airplane mode (communications must be disabled during the match). They are nice to use while in the pits pulling targets as I do not need the earmuffs, just enough to deaden the crack of the bullets going over. I always double up while on the firing line and found wearing these under the electronic muffs to be a little uncomfortable for a whole day. Went to using my moulded plugs under the electronic muffs while firing on the line. The sound quality is very good when using the blue tooth feature on the phone.

You are kidding yourself with any ear bud. A lot of the harmful db’s get transmitted through the bones surrounding the ears, ergo earphones, which cover them as well.
As Monte said, best solution, molded plugs + electronic muffs.

Would a individual be correct to expect greater benefit from some electronic ear muffs over the molded plugs?

My understanding is the Ear muffs can be found to offer near 30 db reduction protection. do any of the molded plugs offer near the same protection as the more effective ear muffs?

Since I was told by an ENT dr., best protection, plugs/muffs.

I'm not as necessarily concerned with db reduction as I am with the ability to hear range commands and fellow hunters. I also shoot a suppressor so I should be in a fairly safe range of sound.

I don't personally own these but, I know several sporting clays competitors that use them and love them.

They are available cheaper if you look around. I wear foam earplugs with electronic muffs when I'm shooting rifles. I've found that if I turn up the amplification of the muffs, I can hear commands even through the plugs.

SORDIN ear muffs are the ones you want! The audio is great and only the loud sound is cut out but it does not cut the conversational level during a shot. they have 4 different program profiles for different situations such as hunting or range or using coms. They are low profile and very comfortable and durable, used by many countries military. I got mine with the Gel pads and it's like night and day. I have had several of the electronic bud styles and none have lasted or worked worth a darn. SORDIN is the best I have found.

I had the OTTO Noise barriers and they failed after a year and company wanted so much to fix them that for $20 more dollars I could buy a new pair, the bad part is hey had only been used about 10- 15 times. Sad, they were a nice concept but stopped working and I never really felt like they gave me quite the protection as good Foamies.

I use Howard Leight electronic muffs that offer the best NRR I could find for electronic muffs 27 db.
I upgraded to the gel ear cups for comfort.
I then bought the cheap Walker Game Ear electronic ear plugs with the cable on sale for $30 and the combination allows clear conversation and great sound reduction during shooting sessions.

I have lost most of my hearing and my doctor told me to double up, foam with ear muffs. I use the Howard Leight electronics, with foam. As mentioned in another post, I also upgraded to the gel pads on my ear muffs. Made a big difference. I think just about everyone at our club uses the Howard Leight’s, with a few Sordin’s, here and there.
