Appears this one did not pass. So, much about nothing.

I heard once NASA had a rocket explode while they were developing a means to propel a payload into orbit.
 
My point exactly!!! Glad you noticed. If NASA and the Rivian factory can't keep them from catching on fire or blowing up why in hell would I want to strap my self into one and drive to town with the idiots on the highway. How could you sleep at night knowing that there is a ticking timebomb in the garage?

Then let's try this WSJ story on for size:

August 7 2024: Huge Fire Sparked by a Mercedes-Benz EV Adds to Safety Concerns Dogging Industry - Blaze in South Korea prompts debate over whether electric vehicles should be allowed in the country’s ubiquitous underground parking lots ... The blaze incinerated dozens of cars nearby, scorched a further 100 vehicles and forced hundreds of residents to emergency shelters as the buildings above the parking lot lost power and electricity. Nobody died, but the fire took eight hours to extinguish. ... In recent years, General Motors recalled tens of thousands of its Chevrolet Bolts in the U.S. over risk of battery fires. Hyundai pulled roughly 80,000 electric sport-utility vehicles after roughly a dozen caught fire. Last September, a Nissan Leaf ignited while charging in Tennessee, and the fire required more than 45 times the water needed for a gas-powered-car fire to be extinguished.

Did anyone notice there was a Tesla semi-truck BEV fire along I-80 on August 19th? Near Colfax, CA, the incident closed I-80 in both directions only ten miles from my home, even though the fire was 90 miles further on. They're calling it a "crash" but the aerial footage shows the burning Tesla BEV semi-truck simply sitting, intact, a few feet off the highway and stopped at an angle. My hunch is there was a fire and the driver pulled over and fled the vehicle ASAP. I await a full report from NHTSA.

After battling the fire for more than 16 hours (!) the highway, one of the busiest transcontinental shipping routes, finally reopened to traffic. An ordinary diesel truck fire, well off the road, might have closed one lane in one direction for a couple of hours. Imagine that the pipe dream (50% of all big rigs on the road are BEVS in a decade) were to come true. (Impossible, but fun to ponder ...)

Authorities had to create a half-mile exclusion zone around the fire to keep toxic fumes from injuring bystanders and motorists. Firefighters were battling the flames using full respiration apparatus. If one of these EV big rigs burns inside a city, thousands would need to be evacuated for the better part of a day.

And California is pushing "ONLY" Electric BIG RIGS to go into and out of ports to unload???? Didn't we have issues not too long back with ships at anchor NOT being able to dock and get unloaded? :confused::confused:
One BIG RIG fire at any port??? :eek::eek:

We suffer from a one party legislature lead by Governor Hair Gell. California is on its way to becoming a haven for the wealthy, the government union retiree, and the poor.
 
Governor Hair Gell?? Isn't that the dude that went visiting the White House while STUPID was out of the country? I can kinda guess his motives. :(:( Looking like maybe Aunt Nancy and her influence isn't too popular anymore?
Maybe Governor Hair Gell should look before he leaps. Can't take care of California, what makes him think he could take care of anything else? Anybody have enough politics yet?? :rolleyes: :rolleyes:

Here's data that invites further explanation (from S&P Global):

BEVs are leaving the fleet more rapidly than their ICE and diesel counterparts. According to S&P Global Mobility analysis, of the nearly 2.3 million BEV's registered in the US from 2013 to 2022, about 2.12 million are still on the road today - about 6.6% have left the fleet. When it comes to other fuel types excluding BEVs, of the roughly 158 million sold in the same timeframe, are around 149.8 million vehicles on the road today - reflecting that 5.2% have left the fleet over the time horizon.

That's a 27% difference. This strongly suggests that BEVs are significantly less durable and/or more subject to "mishaps" than ICE vehicles.

It was a scooter factory, and ~3000 battery-powered scooters (not cars) were destroyed. There's obviously no way thousands of cars would fit in a building like that. And while few in the US can afford an entry-level BEV car, even less so in VN where the vast majority travel by scooters or bicycles.

Still, the point is that lithium batteries are a menace, there's no sugar-coating it with statistics. The main reasons there are many times more ICE than BEV fires are: 1. There are 100x more ICE vehicles than BEVs on the road; 2. The ICE fleet is far older than the BEV fleet, and by far most non-collision ICE fires are caused by disintegrating fuel components and improper maintenance.
