educate me on long range muzzle loaders

been there done that, you are not amusing me at all.

just think if you were stuck with factory cf's with no modifications-hence no benchrest as we speak.

not starting a war just sayin.
Tell me about this law- how did that happen to where you cant deer hunt with a 270 or a 22-250? No 7mm rem mags or 338 win mags? Is this on public land only?

what the hell law are you talkin about & where/ don't care
you are probably sittin there with a hawken or renegade that in the early yrs a 1/48 twist-dumb manufactures selling products-not your fault. that is ethical???

anyone knows that in the know roundballs usually lean toward 1/66 twist for stability, conicals back then around 1/28.... most 1/48's won't shoot but some would?????

is a longbow less accurate than a recurve, then on to compounds etc-ever heard of Howard Hill??

I ask to know about muzzle loaders. How is this turning into this? Why? How? How about sticking to the subject and not starting down a path that takes away valuable time from the form boss.

Thanks to who have answered and gave some input!

good point & I respect that! sorry, but someone chimes in w/ opinions & photos way off base should be addressed regardless of their # of post/likes here in this forum. this was a long range mz request not a yesteryear hawken question-no offense to those that still do this.

again for further long range mz education just tune in to hanks-if I cant address a question other qualified people will.

I agree with your statement that if someone doesnt know, their opinions are just that, opinions. Thank you. I will PM you and follow up on the subject, you have been helpful!

Yea youre right

Jeff Hankins of Hankins Custom Rifles has everything you need from full custom builds to parts for the DIY guy.
This is the guy.
I have shot close to 30 deer in VA with a smokless ML. Mostly the Savage ML1 then I bought a Remington Ultimate Muzzle loader. Its mind blowing for most of us center fire guys to wrap our heads around a 250 gr bullet goting 2,800 fps but its almost common. Hankins is one of the best.

My friend built 2 smokeless muzzle loaders one with a kreiger and one with a brux. They shoot outstanding. I shot a 3 shot group at 100 yds because it was so windy and clover leafed all 3 shots. They are built on Winchester actions and use cut off .308 Winchester cases using large rifle magnum primers. He use's custom fit bullets (45 cal) and they both shoot better than most regular centerfire's. Just amazing. He used my southbend 13 inch lathe (tool room lathe) and wow what beautiful rifles set in older McMillian position stocks, highly modded for comfort.

Like most things gun related you can spend as little or as much on one. Any Centerfire rifle can be a switch barrel gun with a barrel and a breech plug and a few hours work on the lathe.
Cheap way to go, use your centerfire, switch out the bolt head, screw on a ready made barrel with breech plug or buy a blank and do the work yourself.

No need to change the bolthead. It just headspaces with a crush fit on the primer module. I have a 700 switch barrel with same bolt 6.5x47AI and .45 cal. SML.
