E target question

I'm will be going to a new club that uses Shotmarker. They say that you have to have your own tablet, phone, or whatever. Do I need to download a program into my device?
I ask because I don't get cell service at the range and couldn't download it there.
It seems like I need to download something ahead of time. If so,
anyone have a link?

No need to download anything. As long as your device has wireless ability you are good to go. No cell service needed only wireless. Just research how to take a screenshot of your target to have a record to review later.

The ShotMarker Access Point at the range will become a Local Area Network identified by an IP address. Usually just putting in the range provided IP address (192.168.100.1 for example), into an Internet browser address field (Google Chrome, Firefox, Microsoft Edge, Duck Duck Go, etc.) should bring up ShotMarker. Occasionally you may have to open your network setting, choose and connect to “ShotMaker” as your WiFI network.
 
Things you need to be able to use ShotMarker:

  1. Know how to connect your device to a specific wifi network.
  2. Know how to open your web browser.
  3. Know how to enter an IP address into the address bar of your web browser. *NOT* the search bar of your home page, but the *address* bar of the browser itself.
There's more nuances and edge cases to deal with when/if they come up, but that's the broad strokes.

You'd be shocked at how many people don't know how to do either step #1 or #3. Some are a little shaky on step #2, even.
 
Set your phone/tablet to airplane mode. then turn on just your wifi. connect to shot marker access point via wifi. enter the address 192.168.100.1 in the web browser. follow your buddy's next to you advice.
starting in airplane mode with just the wifi on will keep all your apps and stuff from trying to update when there is no wifi to the outside world. this will make you day go better.

Good list, add:
4. Know how to clear cache and close/reopen browser.

The use of multiple versions of Shotmarker access point software is causing issues for shooters who shoot on various ranges and software versions. Buttons show up that shouldn’t be there, delays don’t function, etc. some times clicking refresh (some don’t know how to do this either) will fix, other times it needs cache clearing.

Ranges and match staff have no control over browser function. Shooters/users need to understand this.

I would make it even more basic. The OP doesn't strike me (no offense meant) as someone who has likely *ever* cleared a browser cache. Nor would they be aware of all the other stuff you mentioned, as they've never used it before.

I have, however, seen numerous times where a new (old) shooter accidentally closes or minimizes their web browser, and is freaking out on the line because they don't know what 'app' to open to get the target back.
 
Apologies if this was mentioned already, but another error we see at my local club

Is having MULTIPLE internet browser windows open that are displaying the 192.168.100.1 in the address field.

Best to just have a single active browser window in front and active on 192.168.100.1

Best way to ensure this, is after connecting the ShotMarker WiFi signal, open and the kill all internet browsers you might have open. Just close them all out all together.

Then open ONE browser (chrome, safari, etc) and ONE window and put 192.168.100.1 in that address field.

This will help ensure the screen you see is the active browser window on your device, so your ShotMarker shows updated timely data.

I’m in the group, no matter how small, that can’t do steps 1,2,or 3
I do use Ballistics X, and I can take a picture, which is all I need.
I guess if I had a VCR player it would be flashing “12:00” all the time!
 
A guy with ShotMarker open his Apple screen can usually forward/share his screen’s link by texting it to your Apple phone.

Save that to your favorites so you only have to touch the icon next time. It can sure be tricky to set up.
 
Once upon a time, a shooter at our range had trouble with his tablet.

I closed, literally, over 200 open browser windows...
It took over an hour to clear the cache after that.

BUT -that is why match directors get paid the big bucks -to help people out, and help them enjoy the match.

I'm giving the OP kudos for thinking ahead before he gets to the match trying to figure out what's he's going to do. so many people show up with a tablet and takes 3 people to get there tablet fingered out to get it working. Its not that hard to do once you have done it a few times. I miss pulling targets, getting to eat, sit in the shade awhile, and i like dirty jokes, but the match goes a little faster, more people show up, and I'm not as tired. But having to re-zero a lot really bugs me to get in tune with my target.

In the day of team matches and LEG matches with no sighters, having a good no wind zero and then making a good wind call was critical to getting a good shot in the ten ring on the first record shot.

Today with E targets with offsets and various calibrations (or not) things have changed. If you get sighters, then what you see on your tablet screen is reality and you adjust accordingly. I am not sure what competitors do today on E targets with no sighters. That would be an interesting topic.
