E.A. Brown rifles

Hey guys I’m looking for feedback regarding the accuracy, what kind of groups) and quality of the E.A. Brown 97D rifles. Seriously considering ordering one in either 17 HeeBee or 219 Donaldson Wasp. If you have any experiences with one of these 97D rifles I would like to hear from you. Thanks.

A friend of mine had one chambered in 6PPC. He used it for walk-around coyote hunting. The gun was very accurate--easy quarter MOA. The gun is very wobbly off a front bag, but with a bipod mounted to a sling swivel it worked pretty well. It was light and very compact.

It took a LONG time to get the rifle because he custom-ordered certain features.

I'm not sure what the best application is for this kind of rifle--maybe medium sized varmints taken during a stalk. But I thought the rifle was handsome and it certainly is unique.

I came across this thread and a couple write ups on this forum and wanted to get some opinions of NEW guns coming from this company. I was looking at buying one, but then came across this:

Poor EACBO Quality

I am not sure if this is some freak incident, or the norm - but before I wait a year wanted to see what you guys though.

I don't own any EABCO products but two of the shooters belonging to our range/club own EABCO barrels on Savage actions and EABCO rifles. What they tell me is that tne barrel quality went downhill since EABCO stopped using outside sourced lapped barrels and started using their own in-house barrels which are not lapped. These shooters, who are reliable folks who can be trusted implicitly report that getting an EABCO barrel that shoots really well nowadays has become kind of a crapshoot. Some have given excellent results, while others are mediocre at best and can foul easily.

The 97D is a nice dainty rifle, but the weak link is definately the extractor. The ones I've had and that I have shot were accurate, but not bipod friendly. Don't currently own one and probably won't again unless a 17 Hebee or the like. Russ

After finding a few people with the new barrels that EABCO is making their own blanks for - well, all I can say is that the general feeling is "JUST SAY NO". I keep hearing, "If you can find an old one before he made his own barrel - buy it - but avoid the new ones at all costs."
