Dust off your Deuce

Was thinking about sending out 6 official 100 yard group targets for shooters wanting to test the agging potential of their .222,222mag and .222 super. Shoot warmup (optional) put 5 shots on the honor system in the other 5 targets and send them back to me for measuring. I will have them labeled match 1 thru 5 with shooter name .Shoot them at your leisure and return to me by 8/1. I will include with the targets an equipment sheet for rifle and load data thinking varmint and benchrest class. Also going to host a dedicated deuce day at the Canaan Riffle Club in Canaan NY on August 13, day after the IBS 100 yard group shoot. Was hoping to have all targets measured and a match report created to list with the deuce day report. I was thinking cutting off the mail out targets to the first twenty interested. Probably a plaque with a t-shirt for the winners of the BR and Varmint class. Hope this makes sense, pm me address if you want to try it. Only shooter expense is return shipping to me. Should be a fun way to celebrate the deuce!

Never heard of .222 Super. Could you please describe? I'm a big fan of "smaller is better" (20VT was most accurate short range rig I ever owned).

ASbobcat,

The .222 Super was a rimmed version of the .222 manufactured by the Super Cartridge Company out of Australia for use with the Martini action.
Sounds like the perfect combination, although finding a converted martini at a reasonable price has been a challenge lately.

This thread has me wishing I had a 222.

Great idea - good idea to advance the shooting sports.

I'm not a bench shooter or I would participate. I'm strictly a cross sticks shooter unless I'm engaged in the dreaded practice of load development. :(

PS: Had the great 222 Rem. Rem 700 Sporter weight model, 24" barrel, many years ago. It's an excellent cartridge and I took many of groundhogs and foxes with it using Sierra 50 grain blitz bullets and IMR 4198.
