Well I finally made my way to the range to put holes in these targets. Thankfully there were five holes in each when I finished. Regular Tehama County heat and twitchy winds... I will get the targets in the mail today. I was following the procrastinator's rule: Never do today what you can put off till tomorrow. Thanks a lot for the fun!

Sitting here curious to how things turn out. I've never shot at these targets and mis read the rules (outside the box would add an inch). I couldn't imagine anyone shooting outside the perimeter box and thought it meant the little box in the middle of the target I got really upset that one was fully outside the box and a couple cut the outside edge. Would I have done better had I known, maybe but I'll know better next time. I just had fun. I hope you get a lot more in in the next day or two.

I am going to have to apologize thinking I had another month before having to send in targets. Been having to take my dad back and forth to cancer doctor and Im behind on every thing, just got my first cutting of hay done. I will try and make it right with Mr Miller for the targets. I could get it done this coming week but understand there was a cut off date and it wouldnt be fair to those that got it done when they were supposed to.

Started measuring today. Few highlights for me. Knorthcutt222 laid down a .191 with his factory 722 with h322 and a Berger 52. Wildcatter finished his BR agg with a .174 in match 5 and littlebuddybr shot a heartbreaker turning a .087 into a .339 in BR class. Capital B benchrest! Aggs and equipment list to follow.

Guessing there were very few customs, or Benchrest builds competing. Most I belive would put that amount of money into a 6ppc or 30 br just because they are more dominant in the benchrest community.

I was lucky and only built this for the ridiculously cheap cost I have in it. Honestly less than most factory offerings from the older days. Way cheaper than I see 40x Rifles selling for in these calibers.

But I can't stress enough how surprised I am at this gun, my first ever in almost 70 years 222 duece. So much so, I invested in my own custom reamer, and vintage uncut Krieger LV barrel, and will be upgrading this outfit after seeing the promise.

This is the third match I've shot, and I am still learning this rifle. It does not like squeaky clean, which I am sure will change with the Krieger when I replace this Shilen.

My point, anyone looking for a 22 centerfire, that is easy to load for, gives top accuracy, inexpensive to load for, and long barrel life, and in my opinion, more plusses than most bigger faster 22 centerfire rounds for varminting, and as competative as any other 22 for benchrest competition, better than most, should take a good look at the old 222 Remington. Yes I've had 22ppc, and 22br both, and still rank this 222 Remington as capable as them for this purpose! One thing is for sure, it held the world record for smallest 5 shot group longer than any other cartridge!

I had never shot at competition targets until I shot for the contest. I have to say, I have a fine crosshair and I struggled with this target. I shot a different gun with a dot at the practice target and it worked much better. What were you guys with crosshairs aiming for at this target? Probably should have aimed at a corner of the box. Live and learn.

Since I shot this I went back and centered my dot in the center of the bull and it was better for me than the box.

I also struggled with my aim point on these targets. I’m very used to having a really small aim point. I think my best groups came from shooting the first round and then using that hole as an aim point.

I use a Baush & Laumb 36x fine cross hair. I hold the bottom of the mothball, blending my cross hair into the dark circle. My vertical hair is used to center the mothball and up thru the center of the square.

If I am high or low the dark line gets wider or shows white between my horizontal hair and the dark ring, left and right is obvious when not centered up thru both mothball and square.
