dumb trigger question

I spend a lot of time at long range bench rest, but I have little knowledge of the rim fire world.
I have an old Mossberg "target" rifle from the 80's. It has a fat barrel and I can out shoot my friends with their 10-22's and Marlins, but I want to set it up for bench rest practice at 50 to 100 yd to improve my shooting consistency and wind skills.
Problem is, the trigger sucks! I am guessing with these cheap guns, that is end of story. However, if there is any way to change to a trigger that 1. fits my finger. and 2. Has less than 1 lb pull, I figure you guys will know!

I am O.K. with the stock, the 6-24 scope I mounted and the basic accuracy, but I sure would like to have a trigger that fits a bit better!

I know of no maker for a retro "good" trigger for that gun - not to say it doesn't exist. I do know that a competent gunsmith with patience and a lot of springs (or the ability to fabricate them) can definitely get them working to an acceptable level. I have a few older rifles that have been worked on and they are much more enjoyable to shoot - but are not on par with the average BR trigger.

thanks Searcher,

Ya, I think I am trying to make a silk purse from a sow's ear! I did find a couple nice things about improving the trigger and I will probably try that as my retired labor rate is WAY below a gunsmith rate. And, I can control my work rate!

It sounds like 8oz to a lb is realistic with patience!

I would go to www.rimfirecentral.com there is a whole forum on Mossberg's, and i am sure that someone there has the knowledge that you need. There are some very competent rimfire people there.
