dry neck lube media applicators clumping...

Hi Guys,
I'm using the Imperial dry neck lube with the media applicators (little balls). For the first time I'm noticing some clumping of the balls and some are sticking inside the case necks. Am I the only lucky guy to have this problem?

If not has anyone found a cause and/or a solution?

Thanks,

Joe

Only time this has happen to me, is after i've neck turned and i forgot to wipe off the imperial sizing wax or iv put some on the expander ball to stop it squawking, then the ceramic dry neck lube ball stick to the neck.... i know you can buy a recharge kit basically a small container of graphite powder.

I believe you're right. I believe inadvertently I've done the same thing. Did you just discard the clumping balls or did rehabilitate them?

Joe when I use the dry Lube I put the container on a towel on the bench then after putting the case in the lube I tap it on the towel to make sure none of the balls stay inside the case! Seen it done and you wouldn't want them balls going down you new barrel. Oh your ball must have gotten wet or something.

I have noticed balls getting stuck in a case occasionally. In my case it only occurs with one cartridge (6XC) and never occurs with the other cartridges I use (308, 223). If it happens, I get several balls stuck (~6-8 balls) and never see just 1, because they apparently cluster at the case mouth and create a "bridge", for lack of a better term. I see a similar effect on powder that gets hung-up in my powder measurer on a humid day. To QC against this, after dipping a case into the lube I tap the case mouth on the upside-down container cap.

Good luck,
Trevor

I use only dry lube and nothing else on the case necks by dipping case neck into the lube/balls, then apply lube wax to the body. Unfortunately, do not see the lube stick to the inside or outside of virgin brass. It does seem to brass that has been previously fired as the carbon seems to give the lube powder something to cling to. Do you use dry lube on virgin brass or do you use a different lube in this case?

Although I haven't used Imperial neck lube, I have, on occasion, used graphite to lube case necks. I added some birdshot to the graphite. It seems to work quite well, and the lead birdshot is heavy enough not to get stuck anywhere in the case neck. There are no clumping issues with graphite.

The only downside with graphite is that if it gets on your fingers or clothes, it can be messy.

My experience anyway...........
