Don't remember this kind of reloading supply shortage before

It's not the first and won't be the last time most of us see this. During the early 90s under the Clinton Administration we saw it happen, with primers likely hardest hit. Sandy Hook was another example. Each time this happens it should only be a surprise to the new shooters / reloaders. Whenever I am out and about or looking through email if I see what I feel is a good deal on anything like components I buy them. This becomes easier to do with kids grown and out of the nest and kids of their own. The house is ours so there is more money for other things. Primers, powder and bullets all have a very, very long shelf life just like brass.

This time around I have not bought anything or even looked. For friends and family local to me I have no problem giving out some primers or powder. Anyway the trick is to be prepared and that comes as new to the new reloader. They learn as many of us have just how fragile the supply system is.

I just wish they would start kicking out reloading supplies rather than powder and primers to ammo producers. We should get a little slice of the pie.
Who do you think makes the primers?....
I live 4 blocks away from CCI/SPEER I use to work for them through the Obammy years 09-15 my gf still works for them, we as employees couldn’t even get components!... there primer departments are running around the clock they couldn’t produce 1 more primer if they tried!.. there using all the primers and powder on there ammo assembly lines!... it was apparent over a year ago we were heading into another ammo shortage WHY didn’t you people think ahead?....
There is some stuff still trickling in but you gotta be Johnny on the spot and buy it!... don’t worry about being labeled a hoarder BUY IT!...
I stopped at my local hardware store the other day, they got a shipment of Hogden powder in,... the H1000 was gone before I got there but I bought half of everything he had left I would have bought it all but wanted to leave some for other people, stopped in two days later and most was still there and I personally told several people that had been crying the blues about varget and 4350!... guess where the remaining powder went?... that’s right I bought it as well!... am I a hoarder?.... yes I am!.... do you have powder?.... no!... why?.... IDK?.... Be prepared!....

You would think the manufacturers would get ready for this every four years event. They would have record sales.
My sentiments exactly.
Shooters and reloaders stock up to have inventory....
The military has stock piles...
But component and ammo manufacturers dont.
I laughed at the Hornady video.
Not 1 box of anything rolled down the conveyor during the video, yet they want you to believe they are working around the clock.
Ooooh k
I think it's time to go spread some more fertilizer.

I don’t know about Hornaday I do however know what ATK does and they run 24/7!... they have what’s called the company store ... employees can buy components and things the company and there other companies produce,..... the shelves are bare!.., there selling everything they produce to you!... the consumers!... I’m not making excuses for them just stating what I know to be factual!.. the only way they could produce more would be to expand which they have multiple times to the point there waste water treatment plants are also at 100% capacity and the local laws won’t allow any more so you tell me what should they do?... sell 45 ammo to the police or sell you primers?....

They should have produced a higher volume to begin with, not waiting for the
OH SHIT moment to happen to begin with.
I understand bean counters run most businesses hence why they produce only what thier selling at THAT moment in time.

Just as you scored all your powder for your stock pile, manufacturers should have a stock pile to combat trying times.

Now if you know a active LEO that needs 45 ammo I've got some factory stuff I'll give him.

I've said it before, and I'll say it agian.
Its times like these that we need to look out for one another and we'll get through this.

I guess I’m not saying it correctly or something!
IDK about other ammo plants but I do know about ATK. Vista outdoors! They are and have been since 2009 that I personally know about been running at 100% capacity now 100% is as high as it gets so I don’t know how they could stick pile more than they can produce at 100% capacity. When demand went down by the end of 2015 the shelves did see components and that continued until last year!... there still producing the same but there reserves have been depleted as with the shelves in your local stores! I can’t explain it any better than that. Simply put there making all that they can produce!

You just can't tell some people anything....They just don't listen.

Woke up to a beautiful sunny day up here in Montana. Made the card on the Christmas light town carousel tour because we did some extra lights this year. New house build is coming along great. Wife and kid are healthy.

.....and I have always kept plenty of reloading components on hand in case of times like this.

Life is good

Don't expect this to change this time. Things are going to get ugly. Hornady has been running 24 hours, since the first gulf war, I think. If companies over-expand and the market fails, then they are left holding the bag. Fine line to walk.

If you don't have it now, then there is no one to blame but yourself. This stuff has been coming for years. Snooze, ya lose.

I think we just found part of the problem. Just buy it - even if you don't need it. REALLY?
Who says I don’t need it!?....you?... can you see my powder room?....I’m not the problem but I don’t belly ache I’m outta components! I am low on RL-26 and if I find 1 lb or 100 lbs I’ll buy it

I'm not trying to start an argument. I have all I need so I'm not belley achin'. However, I don't see the logic in "If I find 1lb or 100lb I'll buy it". I guess it's "to hell with everybody else". I'm out.
