Is this a good time to learn reloading ?

Sounds good!

Only item I'd add is a good, digital 6" caliper. Regardless of what tools you use to load your own cartridges, you need to be able to take measurements accurate to 0.001".

Pricey, durable models from well-established manufacturers will run you another $100+ while you can also be well-served by less costly items from $30 - $40.

I use one from Mitutoyo, been holding up just fine after 10 years despite loss of the battery compartment cover. A small piece of Ducktape serves to keep the battery in place....

Once you get into this hobby there's no turning back you know. You have questions, come back here.

I suggest buying a lee classic cast single stage press, they are consistent, sturdy and affordable plus they have very good customer service and warranty.

I would not venture into a press that I have no basic knowledge of progressive press, I mean you are ready to start reloading but are you ready for the issues that the old dillon press may have? You could probably pick that old press after a year or two when you get the hang of it... Good luck!

Spclark, i do cnc machining by trade so i have the precision measuring tools all covered ;)
I think once you get into reloading you will find out there are a lot of reloading specific precision measuring tools that will come in handy and I am not sure if they are a part of your CNC trade. Such as a Comparator Body with inserts for checking accurate Seating Depth and Shoulder Bump. Just look at a Sinclair Catalog and see some of the reloading specific precision measuring tools available. I remember when I started to reload and I received my Hornady Reloading kit a fellow shooter in the club that I had joined told me that I had just scratched the surface on spending on precision reloading and he was right.

So true.

Yeah but if he's into CNC-work for a paycheck he'll save $$ by being able to make from scratch tools the rest of us pay dearly for.
