Does using a Magnetospeed....

Someone mentioned this in one of my threads a while back and it's got me curious. Have any of you guys noticed an accuracy change when you have your Magnetospeed chrono strapped on your barrel vs not on there?

Certainly having the additional weight hanging out there's got to change barrel harmonics some... question'd be whether that affects ultimate accuracy or is more frequently seen in a change to zeroes.

Having the bayonet attached to the barrel absolutely can affect both POI and group size/shape. For that reason, I don't want it attached to the barrel when I'm shooting groups whose size/shape are a critical part of the load development. I usually load 10 rounds at a given charge weight for testing; 5 for velocity determination, and 5 for grouping with the bayonet unattached.

I can absolutely change group size and location. Some barrels and some loads more than others. Just think of the tiny weight movement of a barrel tuner, it can make a difference seen on the target

The concept makes sense to me. I would imagine that the heavier contour a barrel, the less shift or group degradation.

If you're running a suppressed rifle, not much of either, POI, or group size.

Some of the experiences PROVEN by use of the magnetospeed are:
1. Accuracy degrades
2. Accuracy improves
3. POI moves up
4. POI moves left
5. POI moves right
6. POI moves down
7. Magnetizes barrel causing interference with cell phones.
8. Earth rotation slows if more than one is used on the firing line.
9. Interferes with bluetooth headset reception
10. Totally invalidates ballistic apps.
11. When used with a brake, clogs up the ports.
12. When used with a supressor, sound increases 2db
13. With long term use causes hair loss
14. Not to be used by persons with pacemakers, defibrillators or other heart monitoring devices, could cause irregular heartbeat.
15.Last but not least, could cause ED in users over the age of 40.

Disclaiimer, no experiences were arrived at in a controlled environment but mostly when the wind was blowing, atmospheric pressure was changing and during full moons.

I have seen poi change and group size change with it attached. My 338 dropped 2 inches and 3 to the left with it attached but groups stayed the same. My 22- 250 poi stayed the same but groups opened up 3x. I use a caldwell chrono when finding a load to see roughly where im at and then throw on the Magneto once i have established a load for more detailed info. I wouldnt recomend doing load development with it attached.

I'm a long term user of a magnetospeed and have not lost any hair. It just grows in different places now then when I started using the device.

I pretty much do the same thing,accept I find the load the gun likes then I load ten and shoot them over the v3 to get speed,es,and sd of my load.

Yes. The Magnetospeed is NOT manufactured for purposes of determining accuracy of your load. It's ONLY purpose is to provide you with muzzle velocity data. If you want both, buy the LabRadar.

+1 Milo -2, haven't seen enough change to worry about, suppressors add enough wt.to counteract what little the v3 adds.

When using my original MS on snubnosed 454 Casul I get none of the above except # 13.

Number 15 alarms me, but certainly explains symptoms at the range most of the time...but then I shoot a great group and there goes the experiment!

I used it yesterday on a 6.5-284, Sendero barrel and the POI moved up two inches at 100 yds. I guess I need to add to my list "it makes the rifle shoot flatter".
