How do you do the magnetospeed firmware update??

hi guys as the title suggests trying to upgrade to version 3.0 and am not tech savy at all. I did a search for this topic on this forum and nothing... Either you guys don't update the firmware or you are all computer tech wizards. I emailed magnetospeed about this and they basically said too hard to explain and to take it to someone tech savy or send it to them. I'm in Australia so sending it is not an option.

You are supposed to go to their site and click on the link to download version 3 right should take 30seconds to do this according to the guy I watched on youtube!!! yer right of course it doesn't work like that in the real world.

I have tried on 3 different PC all with the same result which is a fail to download this file which apparently is a hex file whatever that means. All the PC's I have tried this on basically don't recognise it or wont open it or come up with some sort of error. The PC's only let you open it with adobe, word, internet explorer etc when you click "open with" and none work. Maybe computers are different here in Australia compared to the US?

I'm about ready to grab that smug guy off youtube who said it takes 30 seconds or someone from magnetospeed who thinks computers are easy and jam their head right through the screen.

The PC's only let you open it with adobe, word, internet explorer etc when you click "open with" and none work.

When ever I have updated firmware, you don't open the file on your PC. You use the device to do the update and just give it the path to the file. From the post, it appears you copy the file on to the SD card.

Thanks guys I managed to get this to work funnlily enough I still don't know what I did. I just kept downloading it and copying and deleting things and opening and closing things until by fluke it worked one time. Hopefully they don't release version 4 for a long time hahahaha

You don't need to open the file at all. Just download it to the desktop.

Once downloaded, take the SD card from the magnetospeed and connect it to your computer. Copy the file you downloaded onto the SD card. Remove SD card from the computer and put it back into the magnetospeed. Hold the center (round) button while connecting the ear phone jack. I had to use the SLOW (down button) method to keep from getting errors.
