Does bullet need adequate support in the neck to shoot well?

Are you seating to a depth where all of the half sized neck is gripping the bullet? Or is just a small sliver of the half sized neck doing the gripping? I would venture to guess that half a necks worth of grip is more than enough to keep things straight. I think this would have worked for me as well. My issue was that I ran out of neck. Thus dosent really matter if half or all of it was sized, only basically the lip was grabbing the bullet.
The whole half-neck is doing work. I'm shooting F-T/R .308 with 200 gr bullets.

From the FWIW Dept . I ask John Whidden that same question at the Southwest Nationals , about five or six years ago . He handed me one of his Comp rounds , and said , "Spin it" . The bullet rotated smoothly in the neck . He called it "soft-seating" since he does seat long , and let's the Leade control his seating depth . I guess you could say "support" is relevant .

How long was he seating it, like . . . into the lands?

More or less . As soft as the bullet was in the neck , I would guess it would "Base-out" when it came in contact with the Leade .
