Does anyone know how to convert a savage sa to a glue in ss follower!

jonbearman

I live in new york state, how unfortunate !
I need help. I am trying to change a staggerfeed savage short action to a glue in single shot follower. I have looked at sss and his will not work.I have a short score high but it was meant for a .223 which is way to short.Their medium looks too short too. Any suggestions as I dont want to make one and I dont have the correct stock either.Any help would be gratefully accepted. I am currently using it for a .260 remington. Will the medium work or is it impossible without custom work.

Jon: So what you're saying is the SSS single shot adaptor won't work?
Why won't it work for your application? Not wide enough? Too short? (You could always send it back) ;)

And FYI, those SSS adaptors replace the CF mags and make it a single shot.
And the "single shot adaptors" (not from SSS) are made to fit in the top of the SF mag so you can single feed. Pretty sure they wouldn't work for your application either. :(

Yes the sss is to narrow but I will keep it for the next one.I dont know what I am gonna do now. I dont have a magwell in this particular stock.

Just a couple of ideas: Pull the bolt, clear tape the opening from the bottom, wrap the bottom of the action in a cardboard tube to hold the round shape, (TP or paper towel tube) fill the opening with bedding epoxy and finish to clear the bolt.
Or, have someone weld a piece in the mag well opening?? I'd try the bedding first. If you don't like it, knock it out.

Just do give you a couple of ideas, Just did something similar, with a Stevens action, and a SS single shot adapter, i used tape to hold it in place then glued it in. Im sure there are better ways, this worked ok for me .
Good Luck
Darren

***Just reread question, NorCalMikie is right the score high adapters are designed to go in mag, the ss adapters replace the mag,

Another thing to try if you don't use a follower.
Tape the inside of the action with clear tape, put a piece of round stock (plastic pipe the same OD as the bolt) to make the round shape then fill the opening from the bottom.
Easier to shape the bottom than trying to shape from the inside? After it's set up, shape as needed.
I'am thinking a metal mix bedding would be stronger but just about any type bedding can be shaped after it sets up.
After you get the shape you're after, use lots of mold release agent and bed the action in the stock. The stock should help keep the filled portion in place.

Thanks nor cal and dmc. I tried the dmc way and it worked perfect. Thank you all for your ideas and suggestions. Jon
