Dodge trucks

Any opinions on the made in Mexico Dodge Rams (Saltillo plant) vs. those made in Warren, Michigan?? Also, are the diesels made in Mexico??? Does it make any difference where they're made ???? ........... I passed on the Dodges made in Mexico in favor of a '16, F-150, 5.0 made in Dearborn, Mi. ........... Just an old school V8 guy that has no need for HD pulling power. Just enough to pull my lawn tractor & trailer to the shop if necessary.
As I understand it, the 1500 series is made in Michigan. The others are made in Mexico, along with the drivetrains:eek:

I have a 2016 Ram 5500 flatbed with the Cummins and Aisin that I use for my business and I honestly average 13 bobtail and 8ish pulling big, heavy trailers. I know you're probably not looking for that heavy duty, but thought I'd let you know.

All trim levels of RAM 1500 double and crew cab models are completely built in Michigan, except for my truck (the Crew Cab Laramie) which is built in both Michigan for the US buyers and ALSO in Mexico for the Mexican market buyers. So my particular Laramie truck was made in Michigan.

All 1500 regular cab trucks are made in Mexico.

All 2500, and 3500 RAM trucks, gas or diesel, are made in Mexico, but the Cummins diesel engine is made in the USA. So every newer 3/4 and 1 ton RAM truck you see on the road was made in Mexico.

The RAM 1500 eco-diesel engine is manufactured by an Italian company called "VM Motori" which is now owned in a 50%-50% joint venture by Chrysler/Fiat and General Motors.

Dodge RAM has been building trucks in Mexico since NAFTA took effect in 1995. Though I'm not sure when the manufacturing details above came to be. I'm sure it changed over time.

RAM truck division split from Dodge in 2010 but are still owned under the Chrysler/Fiat banner. After all the details were hashed out, the name "Dodge" was removed from all of the 1/2 ton and larger trucks. You wont find anything but the name "RAM" (a division of Fiat) on any of the trucks 2012 or newer and you won't see registrations on VIN numbers listed as Dodge Ram since 2014. Don't know why the VIN numbers took longer. I'd be willing to bet the whole split of the RAM truck division had something to do with tax dodging...no pun intended ;)

Thanks for the clarification Ledd slinger :) ............... My local Ram "salesman" was completely confused on the above. If he were as knowledgeable as you he might have made a sale. o_Oo_O .......... I suspect that Mexican Rams are exported to other S.A. nations as well. Maybe even exported to countries other than S.A. ???? Strictly conjecture on my part though.

Starting with the 6.7, design for service was a priority for Ford. When you look under the hood, it's pretty overwhelming. Once you remove the upper intake, the whole top of the engine opens up. Moving the injectors outside the rocker covers was a smart move by Ford. Removing the cab is no longer necessary.

Hasn't the Duramax always been that way?

Only way they have ever had their injectors. Mine has 300,000 miles, but I'm sure it isn't as good as the Ferdges, especioally the Fiat ones.

The Ford cab is plug and play....removing is butt head simple and cheap and makes working on them a breeze.
ALL I KNOW TO FIX MY SIMPLE F-450 WAS $16000 IF THATS SIMPLE I DONT WANT ONE THAT COULD BE HARD TO FIX!!!!!!

Why is it that all car and truck threads are garbage. Seems a person would rather eat xxxx than admit their vehicle is a POS?
When you come to grips with the fact that a truck, however equipped, is simply an extension of ones persona its easy to understand why the myriad of choices today can compliment ones needs in a very specific way. So why is it so hard to understand why an individual might be proud of his/her knowledge of a particular application and be proud of their equipment choices?? .......I don't see this discussion as garbage but rather a collection of ideas and solutions. Lighten up Butch

Chuckle chuckle, Gotcha, it is fun watching them. If you have read as many on different forums, you would understand.

Most guys with trucks are like guys that buy vettes; once you drop that kind of money on something it's real hard to admit that you made a mistake. I never begrudge a guy for driving a dodge or a chevy or a Toyota for that matter. Deep down you know if you made the right choice and you don't need to justify that to anyone but yourself. When it come to truck discussions like this, I lay out facts. They all break. They all cost money. They all can be perfect little angels. But finding what you WANT to do a job is hard sometimes. Need is very seldom though about. I tow a lot. I wanted stability, power and braking. I have 2 boys that in the not to distant future will be over 6'. I wanted something that they could ride in without their knees against my seat. (I'm also over 6'). All 3 major brands had trucks with the power and dually setups i needed to meet my want of being able to tow safely in all conditions with all the loads I haul. Only the ford offered the leg room to meet my want of having enough leg room in the back seat. The bells and whistles of the platinum package were just a bonus of wants I didn't even know I wanted. I can try to justify my buying a DRW diesel but the only person I need to convince is myself.

Guy wants to know if a dodge gasser is what he should get to pull his 9k load in the shooting months. He solicited for an opinion and he got a wide array of them. Some like dodge, some chevy, some ford. Savage, Remington, Winchester. Doesn't matter as long as it gets the job done.

For me, I have a lead foot so I like my truck to be fast. Thought about getting a diesel, but all I really haul is my boat which is around 3000-3500 lbs with trailer and all. Nothing a gas burner can't easily handle. So no need for me to deal with the added cost of changing 14 quarts of oil, exhaust fluid, turbo maintenance, etc. For what I use my truck for, a 1/2 ton gas engine is more than enough. But like I said before, if I was pulling a 9K-10K lb trailer regularly like the OP is intending, I would have chosen a diesel

I would look for a 02 dodge with as little mileage as possible that's when they switched to disc breaks on the back.I would put 275rv injectors and chip it and switch the electronic fuel pump over to the 12v manual p pump.

The 01 was when they switched to all disc brakes, first year of the High Output 5.9 cummins With the 6 speed manual trans also. I have one I bought new, it pulls like a beast. I tow doubles with it, 28' travel trailer and 17' boat. Also pull a 28' commercial salmon boat up and down the coast, the truck actually runs better when you have a load on it. Defiantly go a diesel if you are going to tow a lot.
