Do you give out reloading data?

I'll gladly share my data. I don't load anything crazy, and I'm careful to make note of reamer specs etc.

Especially on this site, I get a LOT of useful load info for cartridges I've never loaded for. You do have to validate data across multiple "known" folks though.

If you blow your rifle up, that's on you. Don't be stupid. Fortunately, it's pretty difficult to do with rifle powders.

It’s okay to share info to experienced guys like many of us on here are we know that’s what worked in there rifle and we back off and work up and it may or may not work in our rifles it’s the novice that gets in trouble and that’s why years ago Paul said not on the open forum if your gonna share your data with another experienced buddy on here or on any forum do it with a pm and not on the open forum!… some kid or new person to reloading will see and use it and could get into serious trouble!…
Some years back when the .300 ultra mags first came out, no load data in his loading manual he asked me we were at work I told him idk I’ll have to check into it,…. He went home and got on the internet and found a load someone published for a custom rifle and Garren had a factory savage!… he had to beat his bolt open with a mallot no primer left in case he got very lucky and that’s just how easy it is to get screwed up in this game!

Indeed Wayne.

Back in the day before the internet, reloading manuals were our only option unless you were mentored by an experienced reloader!

Some folks and organizations (like our very own GOV) can really suck based on the people involved. While I was working, the worst part of my job was the time spent on frivolous law suits.

The way our courts work (or don't work) allows for obvious fraudulent cases to proceed, which then forces time to be wasted on a defense. The whole idea is they want you to pay them to go away rather than go to trial. Many law suits that should be rejected on sight by reasonable people are allowed to proceed by the courts.

If I say anything in a public forum, I have the bitter memories of those events in mind.

With that in mind, if my charts are not stripped of specifics, I know I am accepting a risk that some scammer might circle around and attack knowing they will loose but hoping to force insurance to pay them extortion to avoid the costs of a trail defense. If I give any specifics, I know I don't go near pressure limits on the low or high ends to avoid having some scammers get on here to use us as an excuse to line their pockets.

Loading for two years. Have 5 manuals all are different. I do look at loads from some of you guys and match to my books and cautiously make a decision from there.

Handloading isn't hard. And it isn't complicated. But in a world in which a 140-character tweet too often serves as wisdom, and a couple of 7-minute YouTube videos makes anyone an instant expert... it's hardly for everyone. There's a million ways for it to go sideways.

The very fact that a person would ask the question ("what load should I use?") of strangers, on the internet, speaks volumes.

I'd far rather those folks continued to shoot factory ammo. At whatever point they commit to handloading sufficiently that they understand why that question was a fool's errand... they've reached a point where you can begin talking to them.

Well said.

I wouldn't ask, I have bought two manuals from different Bullet manufacturers, loaded from their Min to Max load and then went from there. I use Gordon's not QL and have a Labradar. It's on me, not you to know what my rifle likes and how it performs.

I don't think there is anything wrong with someone asking for a starting point load for a combination that is not covered in the reloading manuals. But beyond that point, I think it is best to let people use their own experimentation. My big concern is the guy who comes in looking to get a recommendation on a "hot load". I have seen too many recommendations on the internet that will make you blink once or twice!

I post loading info on this site without hesitation, especially if I am testing. However, I generally will not post hotter loads or loads in ranges not generally posted on this site. Never know who may attempt to try them without exercising due care with there particular gun.

There are a few guys on this forum that are like living encyclopedias as far as sweet loads go for many different cartridges. I’ve reached out to them and asked for a starting point or a secret recipe on several projects knowing I have to work up to the load and it’s saved me a lot time and barrel wear on multiple rifles. I’m grateful for that. I’ve also used the cartridge guide multiple times looking for starting points or loads. If I’m commenting on a public forum I rarely if ever give a specific load, if I did I would issue a disclaimer right behind it as far as work up to the load. This forum is a huge resource for many, so much experience and knowledge here but it I still cross reference loads and I always work up to a load no matter the source. It pays to be safety oriented in this game.

I usually only load book data so I'll give information but generally reference the book. So if someone asked for a .243 Win load, I would say this. In my .243, I had good results using Ramshot Hunter and a Hornady 105gr A-Max. I found good accuracy toward the lower end of their published data and one in the mid range of their data. You can find their reloading manual online at: http://blog.westernpowders.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/04/WPHandloading-Guide-7.0-Web-REV.pdf. I have it downloaded on my phone for easy access.

I'm probably a bit too cavalier about it but;

Having pretty much completely gotten away from jacketed bullets, cast represents challenges that honestly, folks are scared to death of. Speaking of jacketed velocities and cutting edge accuracy is such a foriegn topic, most guys don't give a hoot. Politely shrugging it off..... therefore,it doesn't really matter?
