Do the newer Jewell BR Triggers really suck that bad?

Once upon a time, here in the N.E. PA you could go to a Score match almost every weekend and actually compete with your deer hunting rifle and scope and sandbags. It was called Hunter Class. It was inexpensive, competitive - yet FUN, and garnered good attendance. Then along came VFS and that led to custom actions, $1500 rests, $3000 scopes. The fun seems to be fading at todays shoots.
That's called progress Lamar and it's sad this game that me and you play is ending up like it is. Attendance is going down every year. It's too expensive for the average 30 year old with kids, house payments, car payments, ect to travel around and shoot. The world has changed and not for the better unfortunately. When I was a kid we got up at 6 AM, went outside and played out in the woods, or do simple things like playing baseball, building a fort, ect. Use to only come in for lunch and supper and we were dirty enough to were we had to clean-up to sit at the table. The age that we live in nowadays isn't even close to 50 or 60 years ago. Kids now don't do hardly any of the simple stuff that we did. When I was a kid and I was bad my dad got off his belt and made sure that understood why he was whipping my ass with it. You do that now, the kid is on his I-phone looking up which lawyer to call. It's too bad this world got so complex, because what was simple before is long gone. I mean it's pretty sad when you make a phone call to a lot of places and have to wait 5 minutes to talk to a human being.

Another thread bashing a great product, built by a great company, that has always stood behind their product and offered great service.
Isn't that "well respected gunsmith" the same one who bashed Kelbly's actions some years back? Just about the time his own actions hit the market. Hmmm!
You have the wrong gunsmith Eddie. I bought a used rifle with a new Jewell trigger that the previous owner upgraded from a Shilen and the sear snapped right in half. It was metal fatigue and they told me so. That great company as you called it charged me 70 bucks to replace it. They should of sent me a jar of Vaseline back with the trigger.

Jim, I wouldn't have given you any lube. So you got a new trigger for $70?

Some folks would bitch if you hung them with a new rope!
So, you bought a used rifle, broke the trigger and expected Jewell to replace it for free? Uh-Huh!

I own both a B&A and ?5 Jewels. For sure the B&A is on the bench light gun, they are what I would call a perfect trigger. Jewels work just fine on the 22# f-class rifles in a less demanding role. Steve

I've avoided trying a BaA so I won't have to spend $2K on new triggers for my rifles....
Jewell triggers have been on more winning and record setting rifles than all others combined.
They've also been around decades longer than B&A and FF. Give it time...

I dont see the debate here. Jewells are great. I have used a bunch of them and still do. With work I can get them to perform almost as good as an out of the box Bix. I have a tension gauge that can measure very light. The Bix will go under 1oz. and not slam fire. A worked Jewell can to 1.5oz. and a stock one 2oz. and up depending on the trigger. When a guy asks if they should buy a Bix I ask if you like your triggers extremely light, if so then yes. If your gonna set it a 4oz. save the money and go Jewell. One thing that is important to me because I obsess over ignition is the extremely light tension on the top lever of a Bix. When the trigger is pulled the cocking piece has to push the top lever of the trigger down and ride over it. This is drag on the firing pin. The less drag the better. Bix is by far the best here. With Timney on the other end. Different options with different price tags.

Here is what I have seen:
the older Jewels are nicer and more consistent IMHO (and I have had probably 60-70 of them) I only had one that gave me any real issue and I really think that was more of a hanger issue than anything else. I have no issue with them and will continue to shoot them.
The B&A is a better trigger no doubt don't think you will don't think you will find much argument to that. the Jewel is 160 the B&A is 360 $200 isn't anything to sneeze at. and if it was a "game changer" I can swap my jewel for a B&A and go from 7" groups at 1000 to shooting 3" we would see them take over completely. It isn't its a little better. so for my top end guns I will probably swing for the B&A's but I have no issues for the jewels.

You would think a guy with a trade history of 56 would a least be a site contributor. I guess he spends all his cash on B&A triggers.....

I agree with Alex completely. I have 3 comp. rifles all had Jewell's which worked perfectly. I have swapped out two for B&A as I prefer the lighter trigger, just my choice. Sold the 2 Jewell's and the folks that bought them are both very happy with them. Some require a little stoning but that's not a big deal. Buy what you prefer, or can afford, they are both excellent triggers.

I have bought over 23 Jewell Triggers since 2000 thru 2016, and installed them on my guns 10 comp guns and friends guns. Set several IBS records, and to date have had not one issue with any of them other than cleaning now and then. Shooting at least 10 - 20 matches a year. Knock on wood.

It was a brand new trigger Eddie. The guy hadn't put one round thru it. I had the receipt for the trigger when I purchased the rifle. So yes I did expect them to fix it for free but they opted no to. Such a great company quoted by the great Eddie Harren.

No I give donations to more important things like one of the site member's sick daughter. Sounds to me like you could use a lobotomy. I'll send a donation to help you out.

You have admitted to ruining two that was your fault. Maybe they recognize the address and send you a second cause they know it wont last long and you will want a new one?
