Do the newer Jewell BR Triggers really suck that bad?

OK I'll take the blame for destroying 2 of the new BR triggers by primer piercing and snapping that little teardrop piece, but these two others are just inconsistent horrors.
Took them apart to clean and was disappointed at the fit and finish inside the "works" and best described as ROUGH.
Easy to say just send'em back to Jewell for service but anything from Canada or US crossing border to do with firearms is a ridiculous PITA .
Is it just me ,or are the newer models a POS .(Am replacing them as I can afford to.)
FWIW my OLD (maybe 18 yrs) Jewell BR on my benchgun works perfect...
Guess Im also ranting as I've been trying for last two days steady to get these 2 BR models to work consistent and am past frustrated .

Would like to hear of others success or failures with these and if there are some new ideas to get these to work the way the old one does.
Regards
Gord

Well Gord, I was told by one of the best and most well known gunsmiths in the US that the new Jewell's are a POS. He said the older ones he could work on them and they weren't too bad, but he said as good as he could get the old ones all slicked up, it doesn't even come close to an out of the box B&A trigger. I agree. Comparing a Jewell to a B&A is like comparing a Yugo to a Rolls Royce. I've had fellow shooters ask me about B&A's 5 season's ago because I was on this site & BR Central touting how good they were. When they saw me at a match they would ask, are they really that much better? I said, buy one if you don't like it I'll buy it from you for what you paid. I've had over a dozen shooter's take me up on my offer and I'll be darn, not one has ever sold me their new B&A trigger. That ought to tell you something.

Its a shame that a lot of great products are heading down the wrong path.. When companies head down the cost cutting road they almost always have bad results.. When you don't mind paying for a great product over a cheaper version why do companies do it exept to increase profits... Which in the end bites them every time..

When you have something that's not broken, don't fix it. Thats really good advise in general...

With all the bashing that's going on I take offence to it.
Has the original poster talked too the manufacture and complain before going public with a problem and asking for help.
Then someone brings a 3rd parties "statements" to the table to complete the bashing. And then introduces another product into play.
Yes I do agree that when you make a bunch of things some problems arise but try to fix it between you and them.
When you go public with a issue without finding a solution all the trolls come out and spread their 2 cents. And all heck breaks out.

I use a lot of Jewell triggers in my builds. Have only had one with any issues. Returned it to Jewell. In 10 days or less I had a replacement. Can't say enough good things about Jewell triggers and their service. If you have a bitch call and talk with Brian Jewell.

I blew up a jewell trigger; my fault. They fixed it with a two week turn around.
I have nothing but respect for tbem.

I have had some jewell's that where a little rough with some creep. All of them can be stoned up nicely. I have had issues with some Bix triggers too. Smith and Wessons in the 60s were beautifully made. They could still make them that way. Would you PAY for it though? Is a $160 Jewell as good as a $375 Bix? No its not. I dont think its bashing to post something negative. Its how we share info and make the best choices on how we spend our hard earned $$$

I havent had a problem yet. Jewell builds them for me the way I want, then I go pick them up at their shop. Never had a problem in the world with their service is what Im grtting at

Not to mention you are stepping hard on my toes.
There are potential buyers who may believe any and everything
they read on the internet, and it may be just one opinion,
that starts the rumors flying.
As Arnold Jewell stated, "If you have a problem with our trigger,
dont tell others, tell us, we fix problems". LDS

Kinda sorta agree, but not fully. Yes, in most instances, people should contact the manufacture and try and have them resolve the problem. BUT, it is nice to see if a particular manuf. is having a lot of problems with a particular item. For example, the Ruger MK pistol extractors.

Your right Alex. Some people like to candy coat a product, but fact is fact no matter what you do to that Jewell, it will never equal a B&A. It's old technology vs the new. The Bix is a better mousetrap. Same with an AMP annealer compared to any propane type annealer, again a better mousetrap. That's why I pay over two times the price of having mostly Marches on all my rifles instead of those send them back once a month to get it fixed Leupolds. How many of you guy's still use Hoppe's #9? Can I talk trash about that stuff without hurting somebody's feelings because they still think that stuff works great? It's another dated product that has been moved to the back of the pack. Some people have blinders on and CAN'T HANDLE THE TRUTH! I'm not going to spend 5 grand on a rifle and put an outdated trigger in it. If you guy's want to do that it just proves you can't fix stupid.

I've had several older jewells and no problems. Are the new jewells still made in America, or have they moved manufacturing to Mexico?? I tryed a Flávio Fare and all I can say is wow!

Once upon a time, here in the N.E. PA you could go to a Score match almost every weekend and actually compete with your deer hunting rifle and scope and sandbags. It was called Hunter Class. It was inexpensive, competitive - yet FUN, and garnered good attendance. Then along came VFS and that led to custom actions, $1500 rests, $3000 scopes. The fun seems to be fading at todays shoots.

I own three Jewell triggers and one Bix n Andy. All are fine, reliable triggers.

I have read that the B n A triggers are not as susceptible to damage from blanked primers and I hope not to find out. Are the B n A's worth twice the price of a Jewell? I would say that would be up to the individual and budget. YMMV
