Do it yourself Stock making thread

Sanded the recoil pad, roughed in the grip cap and sanded the rest to 220. I have to gear up in full hazmat gear to work on this teak. Not pleasant. Honey do list only gave me a couple hours, today.
I’m waiting on my cheek piece hardware so I can’t finish until it comes in.

Well deserved Josh, every time I see two boards with some nice grain, I ask myself could Josh glue these to and make a great stock. The only part that I don't understand completely is if there are maybe some holes or imperfections, how the epoxy fill in works. I see stocks made of different woods and some of them are just amazing and gorgeous. Glued pieces can make a great stock, because a block of wood would cost thousands. You are the man that knows.

I used some leopard wood for the first time on this stock. It works easily and I think it’s pretty so I just ordered three 4 foot boards, 3/4” thick. I’ll get 2 blanks out of them for the $200, so $100 per blank. That’s more than I usually spend but it’s pretty wood!
Glueing thinner boards together usually makes the blank more stable, too.
I’ll fill small holes with clear epoxy. Larger holes and cracks might get some colored epoxy. (See the turquoise/Mesquite stock I did.)
For large epoxy fills, do a google search for “River tables”. Lots of videos about how and what to do. I’ve seen some Bc’z pics of some of those types of stocks. They can look cool.

Thank you, I have a Chassis which would only require adding a slider up front.

I have thought about building an F Open rifle. I like what I saw from Josh's work and was just wondering if he had ever built an Open rifle stock.
Now you’ve peaked my interest. What’s an F Open stock look like?

Here is an image. The cheek like many is adjustable, the bottom of the stock is flat to provide level recoil on the rear bag. The forearm is 3" wide with an insert on the bottom to allow a pin from the front rest to slide in during recoil. Vents are often added to the forearm to vent the barrel heat from 22 rounds in 20 minutes. The butt stock is often fitted with a recoil absorption butt plate and is adjustable to fit the user.

I am by no means an expert as I have only shot F-TR (Target Rifle).

Here are some key features from the internet:

Key Features of an F-Class Open Stock
  • Low Center of Gravity (LCG):
The low profile and design features help to lower the rifle's center of gravity, providing better balance and stability.
  • Paralleled Bottom:
The perfectly parallel bottom surface of the forend and butt allows the stock to track perfectly in the rear bag.

  • Low-Profile Forend:
The wide, flat, and low-profile forend is designed to work with the bags and minimize torque from the heavy barrel.

  • Smooth Tracking & Return to Battery:
Features like smooth side panels and bottom "gliders" contribute to minimal bottom friction and maximum side support, which helps the rifle track straight on the bag and return to battery without jumping.
