My apologies for the delay in response.

Thankyou for your kind offer Josh. It seems i can actually buy it out of the states which is good news.

If we sent our baby kangaroos away, what would our kids have to ride to school on then?!

That looks beautiful! Well done!!! Go shoot it! Save the “finish” coats for the winter work.;) I do that.
I’m taking a break from the shop work and getting some shooting in. The heatwave broke so I’ll be at the range tomorrow!:)

The wide square looking grip is a illusion of the photo. It's not square or wide. If you look close a human face with a boonie hat also showed up on the left side of the grip. That's in the wood.

So in planning the dyeing and finishing stage of my maple BR stock rebuild, the cost of these colortone dyes is quite high for just a single stock project! Anyone want to split cost on some or potentially sell me maybe 1/2oz of the 3 or 4 basic colors for figured maple? I can provide 1/2oz or 1oz bottles.

I dont plan on going into stock finishing as a full time hobby, and only have this one maple stock. So I figure 2oz of concentrate is far more than I will need.

Just a thought.

So I have this 40xbr stock sitting here in need of bondo, paint and some love. Decided to remove the existing bedding material and open the recoil lug slot so I can get it situated to my rifle. I have an aftermarket, .244" thick recoil lug that is pinned, and has a wider profile as well, so nearly every stock I own needs to be opened up.

While working on the recoil lug slot I noticed the bedding delaminated from the wood and chipped off very easily! Not sure what this bedding material is, but its plenty flexible and does not have great adhesion. I was planning on grinding it out, but just 10-15 minutes with a chisel and it nearly popped out whole! These are some pieces that came out of the stock, no wood damage at all!

I will get this stock cleaned up and most likely paint it. It's been flame striped and is generic straight grain walnut, nothing spectacular, plus the bolt slot needs work and has been redone on some edges of the inletting already. I think it's a good candidate for color.

Ok, what's everyone's favorite filler for bolt slots? This walnut 40XBR stock will be getting painted, so color matching and hiding the repair isn't important.
