Do it yourself Stock making thread

Thanks. What I like is the thickness of the epoxy finish. The two coats gave me 8-10 mils. The spinner idea came from a friend that used to make custom fishing rods.;)

Hi All,

Obligatory, first time poster, long time lurker.

I typically dont like posting on forums but I just had to say a big thank you to everyone participating here especially Joshb.

Im just getting into making my own stocks and there is more information in this single thread that what i was able to find on all the other sites combined.

If I get brave enough, i might even throw a question of my own in here and there.

Thanks!

Hello and welcome! Slide on in. I’m glad we can help. I’m just an old retired guy that needed a hobby to fill the hours. I find makings stocks to be fun. It allows my creative side to come out and play.
Ask any questions you might have. I’ll answer them if I can. This thread is my way of trying to give back to this great forum. I’m not a great shooter yet but I know a little about wood. I’m tickled pink that guys are trying it and producing some fine stocks. It’s nice to talk with other wood workers too, so I get to learn some new things.;)

I took a step on the wild side and made this stock. I still have a few finish details to work on but it’s essentially done.

Nope. I’m on home repair duty. Then comes flower pots. Maybe next week.;) Oh, and I’m waiting on a new set of rings so I can put a Sightron 10-50 on it. The Vortex just wasn’t right for it. It will go back on a factory gun.

Josh, nice work on this stock. The lines look familiar.??
Looks like the action was move back, some???
Nice.

:p:p:pYou noticed? I kinda regretted sending your drawing back! I had to do this one from memory!:D I made the distance from the front of the grip to the trigger the same as yours. The grip is 1/2” longer. The gap behind the action to the cheekpiece had to open up for the longer cartridge. I put a large recoil pad on it. Otherwise it’s just like yours. I found that I liked the design and the feel of it so I decided I had to have one!
Is yours up and running yet? Pics? I’d love to see what it looks like finished.:)

Not running yet, Josh. Had too many irons in the fire, lately.
You will get pics, when I get it going.

Josh, been thinking about this stock and I have come to the conclusion, it needs a name. I am not creative, in that regard, so the ball is in your court----or, maybe the gallery can come up w/ a good one.
