That’s a slot for the rear of the bolt. That or cut the whole cheek piece back 3/4”. I still have to sand the inside.Looking good.
What is the purpose of the cutout in the cheek rest? Is there more shaping yet to be done?
Yup. Even with the first coat of oil, I’m seeing it. I’ve had this hunk of wood in my shop for 3 years waiting for me to get to it. I have enough to do another one. So many projects, so little time!Mahogany is a beautiful wood. Depending on the grain structure can almost have a pearl like appearance from different angles. Definitely give is a lot of depth.
I have some extra cut offs that would be perfect for that!!! I’d be glad to send them to ya!I think linseed oil can produce some beautiful stocks and it is durable.
While Bc'z produces some amazing finishes and I would love to own one. I would be afraid to use it for fear of damaging it somehow.
That modeling in that Mahogany would make some pretty grips for my 1911. But mine is a carry piece. It is fitted with the stock plastic grips because it get banged around in daily life and to keep it as thin as possible.
Josh, that would be very nice, thank you. I will PM my information.I have some extra cut offs that would be perfect for that!!! I’d be glad to send them to ya!

That's sexy!!Thanks, guys! I show them to my wife and she just rolls her eyes! On most of my stocks, I epoxy a 3/8” threaded rod thru the grip to just below the action channel. Then I cover it with a Liberty silver quarter.
