Do it yourself Stock making thread

Oh ok Thanks- I messed up my glue joint, how much I don’t know. That shoulda been about as simple as it gets. Anyway devconned the pin in last nite so I’ll check in a little bit.
It’s okay! I know you’re an electrician trying to become a wood worker. You should see some of my electrical projects! Anyway, don’t fret! We’re here to help!

A day of sanding, cutting the bolt slot and this one is ready for Preacher’s oil. I’m giving this to a friend, then I start on mine.246EE127-B293-4732-A487-09BAC6FE7B5C.jpeg27EDB0D8-FFA4-4A81-8D43-44444A993BE0.jpeg

Ha yes you’re right- I’m better at putting 2x4s together. Will keep trying on these stocks. Nice job on that one up there. I need to order some arrow. Thanks

More progress on the stock. Not much on the dog, she still won’t hunt.

Looking good so far!
I bet you’ll be making that hackberry model before to long !!! U do a great job on those palm swell areas for just using a sanding drum on the drill. Those are a lot of work doing it that way, I know. Ive got a new sanding drum tool. Ill include more info soon.

What does your blank look like?
Walnut. It might have a little ;) nicer grain structure than this one. Nothing really fantastic. Just a board out of the pile. I start to feel a little guilty about saving the better blank for myself, but then I remember that I gave away the last 5 stocks I’ve made. I’ll do this one then tackle a few repairs guys have sent me. I have a stock here with the butt so far off center, I think the guy made it during cocktail hours!

I need to take a look at that Hackberry. I put it on the pile for a rainy day.
On the palm swell: I’ve used a gouge, grinder and drum sander and the duplicator. I think using the gouge was the most pleasant and it only took an hour.

Sounds good on the one you’re working on. I got a new drum sander that ought to make things better. Ill look into the gouge. Thanks

Ok! If you want to try the gouge, let me know and I’ll track down the one I used. I think it’s Swiss made and I got it from Woodcraft. It’s Very sharp and cuts like butter.

Ok thanks
I bought three different sizes. I found out you only need one. Watch out! These things are razor sharp!
