This is why threads have specs and classes of fit. A 2a should always fit a 2b and there is a surprising amount between a go and no-go plug or ring gauge...about .004.
Bottom line, something is likely out of proper spec.
This is much like the threads that often come up on here about barrel threads. Too tight causes problems and a little loose does not.
I believe Dave Tooley puts it best in this regard..."Dont do anything to make the phone ring".
